Yes there is a woods near the house. When I was a kid our neighbor had a big wooded area my sister and I enjoyed walking in. Will be fun to do that again. We have so many birds singing who live in the woods. Heavenly!
I have to go get a few more feeders. I left my main feeders at the old house for those birds who depended on them. We have a birdbath here left by previous owners just like we left ours behind.

Ooooo...having woods that close will be heavenly! Be careful of snakes. LOL!

To My Dear Friend

The elder, to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 3 John 1

What the apostle John did for his friend Gaius in the first century is a dying art in the twenty-first century. John wrote him a letter.

One writer for the New York Times, Catherine Field, said, “Letter-writing is among our most ancient of arts. Think of letters and the mind falls on Paul of Tarsus,” for example. And we can add the apostle John.

In his letter to Gaius, John included hopes for good health of body and soul, an encouraging word about Gaius’s faithfulness, and a note about his love for the church. John also spoke of a problem in the church, which he promised to address individually later. And he wrote of the value of doing good things for God’s glory. All in all, it was an encouraging and challenging letter to his friend.

Digital communication may mean letter-writing on paper is fading away, but this shouldn’t stop us from encouraging others. Paul wrote letters of encouragement on parchment; we can encourage others in a variety of ways. The key is not the way we encourage others, but that we take a moment to let others know we care for them in Jesus’s name!

Think of the encouragement Gaius experienced when he opened John’s letter. Could we similarly shine God’s love on our friends with a thoughtful note or an uplifting call?

Lord, help us know how to encourage others who need a spiritual boost from us.

Encouraging words bring hope to the human spirit.

My husband and I have been paranoid about snakes living in the woods and near a little river that borders the Far East end of the property. Ever since we walked to the river in the spring we both thought , gee I wonder how big any snakes might be.

You might never see one. Just always look down when you walk. That kept me from stepping on a big rattler once. My heart nearly stopped. LOL!

Radical Love

When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind. Luke 14:13

Just one week before her scheduled wedding date, Sarah’s engagement ended. Despite her sadness and disappointment, she decided not to waste the food she had purchased for her wedding reception. She did, however, decide to change the celebration plans. She took down the gift table and revamped the guest list, inviting the residents of local homeless shelters to the feast.

Jesus upheld this sort of no-strings-attached kindness when speaking to the Pharisees, saying, “When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed” (Luke 14:13–14). He noted that the blessing would come from God because these guests would not be able to repay the host. Jesus approved of helping people who couldn’t supply charity donations, sparkling conversation, or social connections.

When we consider that Jesus spoke these words as He sat at a meal given by a Pharisee, His message seems provocative and radical. But real love is radical. I’ve heard it said that love is giving to meet the needs of others without expecting anything in return. This is how Jesus has loved each of us. He saw our inner poverty and responded by giving His life for us.

Knowing Christ personally is a journey into His infinite love. All of us are invited to explore “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:18).

Dear God, help me to explore the depths of Your love. I want to give to others what You have given to me.

How deep is the Father’s love for us!

INSIGHT

As Jesus attends a dinner party hosted by a “prominent Pharisee” (Luke 14:1), He turns our human desire for social recognition into an opportunity to teach His kingdom values: Don’t seek out positions of prominence but exalt others instead (vv. 7–11). Then He turns that lesson into one tailored for His host: Don’t give a party simply to enhance your own economic prospects or to build your reputation in the community. Instead, give lavishly to those who have a genuine need and cannot repay you (vv. 12–14). This aligns with the Lord’s teaching in the Sermon on the Mount: “When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets” (Matthew 6:2).

What motivates my giving and my social interactions? Do I serve God’s kingdom values of unconditional love and mercy?

We unloaded 2 PODS today. I worked from 7am to 10pm. There is so much to unbox and find a place for. We had help with the furniture. I want to get away to church tomorrow.

Still wonderfully quiet here!

It is possible there are rattle snakes in the woods. More likely to be garter snakes around here. I am not a fan of snakes if the scare me. I will be armed on my future walks. Probably will wait until the mosquitoes die in late fall. Deer flies like it in the woods too.

We had a swarm of hornets and wasps try to take over my porch yesterday so I got spray that shoots 20 feet and killed them in their nests this morning.

We needed the use the front door to bring in our furniture today. I am impressed with the power of that wasp spray. Will get more to have on hand. Got 2 cans today and nearly emptied one in my first attack. Quite satisfying to see them drop dead!

Like the dog kisses poem. Our dog Moose likes to lick my husbands face. I do not let the dog do that to me. He can lick my hand if he wants but no kisses and yes I mean the dog. Lol.
