Aztec human sacrifices were far more widespread and grisly that previously thought, archaeologists have revealed.
In 2015 archaeologists from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) found a gruesome 'trophy rack' near the site of the Templo Mayor, one of the main temples in the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan, which later became Mexico City.
Now, they say the find was just the tip of the iceberg, and that the 'skull tower' was just a small part of a massive display of skulls known as Huey Tzompantli that was the size of a basketball court.

Celebrate diversity. All cultures all equal!
In seriousness, this explains why a handful of Spaniards could conquer the place. The other tribes despised the Aztecs.
But the Conquistadors were evil for having broken up their benign rituals and agrarian way of life...
The Conquistadors were basically the Allied armies rolling into Nazi death camps. They were Heroes for wiping out the nightmare
Are they sure that’s not just a dumping ground for the cartels? Seems massacring innocents is in the Mexican blood.
More like the Russian army...

...Looks like the Spanish accounts are not exaggerations after all...
If the Spanish hadn’t come, the savagery would have continued.
But, we continue to murder our unwanted children.
Some criticize the Catholic church, Christianity, for what Cortez and others did...
When Cortez is the good guy in the scenario!
Just as a point, Catholicism (which is Christian, note the founder), is never behind murder of any sort. By definition.
People in the Church, people who are baptised Catholic, even the hierarchy, can say they are Catholic, but that does not necessarily mean they are practicing Catholicism.
It does mean they will be judged as Catholic, whereby if they had been lying and murdering it doesn’t go well.
But Catholicism is never behind this kind of thing.
Flame away
If they stay home, we won’t have to deport their felonious a**es. Ignorant.
MS 13 victims?
In the game they played (similar to lacrosse I think) the WINNERS got sacrificed.
A severed head was a participation trophy for the losers.
None of this could have had anything to do with property, because the Native Americans didn’t have a word for such a thing, and didn’t believe in it...
Not even the Crusades?
Or in other words, the kneeling was done after the game.
“the kneeling was done after the game.”
Good one!
This validates what Bernal Diaz said he saw during the Discovery and Conquest of Mexico.
Diaz wrote the most extensive first hand account of the Conquest. He was a foot soldier of Cortez.
Best history book I have ever read.
