Rock and soul music diva Tina Turner, who’s lived in Switzerland for nearly two decades, is giving up her US citizenship, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Citing a report from the US embassy in Bern, it said Turner, 73, signed a statement to relinquish her US citizenship at the embassy in October.
She married German record producer Erwin Bach in July, three months after taking Swiss citizenship.
Turner topped the charts in the 1960s with then-husband Ike Turner with hits like “River Deep, Mountain High,” before a successful run as a solo artist that included “Private Dancer” in 1984.
Quoting a “knowledgeable source,” the Post said relinquishment is simpler than renouncing US citizenship – and entails no tax or other penalties.
The United States is one of the few countries that requires its citizens who live permanently abroad to declare and pay income tax.

Yes, quite well in fact. But she married some gazillionaire record producer and decided to stay mostly out of the spotlight. Kind of surprised she popped back up. Never knew her politics before now.

I’m reading it that she is thankful for Trump because she dislikes him so much she is now willing to give up her US citizenship. In other words, she hates Trump and his supporters. Please correct me with solid evidence if I am wrong, but not a time to applaud Tina Turner.

Fantastic! She is a wonderful person and deserves all the acclaim she receives. I had the great privilege of seeing her perform in 1969 when she was still with Ike. It was early in their touring career, and she had recently launched the “Big Wheel Keep on Turnin” number and the dancing with the Ikettes. The audience was about half black fans and half white hipsters, due to the newness of black rock and r’n’b performers “crossing over” to mainstream status and the relative newness of the Civil Rights era, when mixing together socially was hipness itself for both racial groups at the time—the “Animal House” era. Audiences were already going bonkers wild for her performances, screaming involuntarily, including me. You could see Ike’s jealousy from the balcony seats.
