Fantastic! She is a wonderful person and deserves all the acclaim she receives. I had the great privilege of seeing her perform in 1969 when she was still with Ike. It was early in their touring career, and she had recently launched the “Big Wheel Keep on Turnin” number and the dancing with the Ikettes. The audience was about half black fans and half white hipsters, due to the newness of black rock and r’n’b performers “crossing over” to mainstream status and the relative newness of the Civil Rights era, when mixing together socially was hipness itself for both racial groups at the time—the “Animal House” era. Audiences were already going bonkers wild for her performances, screaming involuntarily, including me. You could see Ike’s jealousy from the balcony seats.
She is pretty awesome.
