He attended Alexander Hamilton Vocational School after graduating from high school, but dropped out and joined the Marines in 1956.
When asked why he joined the Marines, Keitel has said, "The Marine Corps was one experience along my own particular path. I had to do what I did. I couldn't do otherwise. What was it that the guy said, 'Why'd you climb that mountain?' And the answer was 'Because it's there.' Sounds corny, but nevertheless it's somewhere in that area."

Everyone has their own reasons to join the Marines. Or, not to. They were drafting into the Marines when I joined the Navy. That was a conscious choice I made.
I thought there was a height restriction back then. I guess not. Harvey is 5ft 7.
Wow. Never knew that.
I have a list of over a hundred celebrities who are veterans, you would be surprised who is all on that list.
Good actor, fine Marine. But seriously? The NAKED image of him from, ‘The Piano’ will be forever burned into my BRAIN, LOL!
Was that REALLY necessary? *SHUDDER*
Check out this crazy scene with him from the movie Fingers...
It’s where he’s playing his boombox radio inside a restaurant.

Oops!!!
Forgot to add “Bad Language” warning on that Fingers clip in my post 9.
I do not know his politics.
He keeps his mouth shut.
A good thing,
.
I get the feeling Bobby still needs somebody like Harvey to look after him.
I don't either, but from that link, and what he says about the Marines, I bet he's not an insane leftist.
Probably a liberal though.
Why would 5'7" trigger any sort of height restriction?
“I solve problems.”
Winston Wolf: Good
I need you two fellas is to do
is to take those cleaning products and clean the inside of the car... ...Jimmy, lead the way. Boys, get to work.
Vincent (John Travolta): A “please” would be nice.
Winston Wolf: Come again?
Vincent: I said ‘a please would be nice.’
Winston Wolf: Get it straight, buster. I’m not here to say please. I’m here to tell you what to do. And if self preservation is an instinct you possess, you’d better f*ckin’ do it and do it quick. I’m here to help. If my help’s not appreciated, lotsa luck gentlemen.
Jules (Samuel L. Jackson): No, no, no, Mr. Wolf, it ain’t like that. Your help is definitely appreciated.
Vincent: Mr. Wolf, listen. I don’t mean disrespect, okay? I respect you. I just don’t like people barkin’ orders at me, that’s all.
Winston Wolf: If Im curt with you its because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast, and I need you to guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the f@ckin’ car.
Before Mean Streets with R. De Niro, there was Who’s That Knocking On My Door. It was Martin Scorsese’s first film. It was similar to MS. Kietel played the lead role.
I had to take a whole battery of tests and after they graded them they said my IQ was too high for the Marines, so I joined the Army instead.
