He decided that religion was illogical, and when he joined the Marines, under "religion" he wrote "none". He was infected with malaria during the battle of Guadalcanal, and was not expected to live, but he told the nursing staff, "I'm not going anyplace." He has said that this is when he returned to the Catholic faith, as he prayed to survive. Yeary remained too ill to return to fighting before the end of the war.

Have been reluctant, still have Texas in my blood, Don’t know if I will ever change it. Don’t get me wrong, I live in God’s country in NE Alabama, love it here, just apart of me that still loves the lone star state.

I’ve been on conference calls with LOTS of people, where one person said something like “I don’t understand..” and someone says “It’s ALL ball bearings nowadays!”
To: Deaf Smith
I forgot all about that, give me some time.

I have news for you. EVERY living and breathing heterosexual male had a crush on 99.
I specifically include myself.

Born Donald James Yarmy. Had his dad, his wife, multiple daughters and his agent on as extras in Get Smart. Had his brother, Richard Yarmy, on twice in real parts. "Laramie," Robert Karvelas, was his first cousin and an identical twin, with both twins good boxers who also served in the Marines at Guadalcanal. After Don recovered from his near fatal bout of malaria he taught fellow Marines unarmed combat he was more competent than his character sometimes appeared to be.

>EVERY living and breathing heterosexual male had a crush on 99. An ongoing gag was how long it took Max to realize, and then to admit, his own crush on 99. Although he did sweetly steal a kiss when she was paralyzed in the tenth episode. It was literally love at first sight by 99 for him, before Max even realized she was a girl.
I forget to mention in my Yarmy nepotism notes upthread that Don co-wrote some of the episodes with his sister.

That pretty much covered the sexual spectrum during that time. I never saw a live homosexual back when Get Smart was on.

He was born in 1923, not 1926. No way would he have been in the Marine Corps at age 15!

I was born three years after the show ended and I still managed to have a crush on her. I picture her when listening to Totos 99, which is more based on THX-1138 than Get Smart.

Don Adams nailed the part of Maxwell Smart. Along with
McHales Navy, Get Smart was my favorite comedy
show of the 60s. Hogan Heroes was up there in my
book along with a select few others.

Somehow they left out the fact that he was a Drill Instructor after his tour in Guadalcanal.
For what it is worth, his son was in my platoon at MCRD San Diego.
