He has said that this is when he returned to the Catholic faith, as he prayed to survive. Yeary remained too ill to return to fighting before the end of the war.

My dad was a marine who fought in Guadalcanal and Bougainville. Then got filariasis from some mosquito or bug and was shipped stateside where he recuperated enough by Wars end to be ready to hit the land battle of japan that ever happened because Truman dropped the bomb
