A 10ft statue of a bear has been ordered to be removed from a roadside - after a scared woman driver blamed it for causing a crash.
The wooden grizzly bear has guarded Britain's smallest town of Llanwrtyd Wells, population 850, for more than 15 years as a roadside landmark.
But safety chiefs demanded it be taken away from the Mid-Wales town after a woman feared the wooden animal was real - and she careered off the road into a signpost.

It’s not that hard to drive off a road in Wales, most of them are about as wide as a bike lane.

While that may be true, what has it got to do with some moron in Britain?
Just because it hasn’t happened here, doesn’t mean it couldn’t. This was driving incompetence and lack of common sense. I witness this every time I venture out. Mostly texting and driving or some other impairment. We have that in common with Britain.
Just because anthropomorphic global warming isn’t true doesn’t mean it couldn’t be. If you never go out you substantially cut your risks of accidents. So what there are fools everywhere, always have been always will be. We just have much higher population than in the past so it just seems like there are more fools, just the same percentage as always.
Admittedly, panicking over a fake bear sounds ridiculous, but around here a few years ago, some moron put up a life-size statue of a deer right at the edge of the road.
As you approached it from one direction, you could see the just the head as you came around a slight curve. At night, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that a deer was about to jump right out in front of you. Deer will do that without warning.
I don’t know if any accidents happened as a result, but the deer statue disappeared soon after it was deployed.
Someone should beat the “safety official” with the bear statue. What idiots. if there are any pieces left over, beat the idiot woman.
You know, this wouldn’t have been a problem in Saudi Arabia. Just saying.

With all the timber in Canada, I’m sure she’s never seen a wooden bear statue there. Nor does anyone up there have a chainsaw to carve one out.
Also...was she even driving on the correct side of the road?
She was very likely one of the ones who drives 2 mph under the speed limit in the passing lane.
