A daily dose of baking soda may help reduce the destructive inflammation of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, scientists say.
They have some of the first evidence of how the cheap, over-the-counter antacid can encourage our spleen to promote instead an anti-inflammatory environment that could be therapeutic in the face of inflammatory disease, Medical College of Georgia scientists report in the Journal of Immunology.
They have shown that when rats or healthy people drink a solution of baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, it becomes a trigger for the stomach to make more acid to digest the next meal and for little-studied mesothelial cells sitting on the spleen to tell the fist-sized organ that there's no need to mount a protective immune response.
In the spleen, as well as the blood and kidneys, they found after drinking water with baking soda for two weeks, the population of immune cells called macrophages, shifted from primarily those that promote inflammation, called M1, to those that reduce it, called M2. Macrophages, perhaps best known for their ability to consume garbage in the body like debris from injured or dead cells, are early arrivers to a call for an immune response.
In the case of the lab animals, the problems were hypertension and chronic kidney disease, problems which got O'Connor's lab thinking about baking soda.

Untreated Reflux leads to Barrett’s Esophagus a pre-cancer leathery lining of the Esophagus. Needs a biopsy every 2 yrs should be yearly, but Medicare says 3 yrs. Even when you take a PPI if you can’t get the Reflux under control it will erode your Esophagus and stomach. Which in turn will destroy your BONES/Spine. Which then can lead to Gastropresis...i.e. progressive paralysis of the colon. And you don’t want the DIET that goes with GP NO FIBER. Plus some med to make your colon dump each day.
STAY OFF OA DRUGS they get your GI/Heart and OTC pain meds, only use Tylenol, rest are gut destruction crap. Hypertension drugs get your GI/Vision
Correct. Your body will produced chemicals to stabilize your pH. My understanding is no that an alkaline diet raises your pH, but that alkaline intake prevents your body from having to secret harmful chemicals in order to raise your pH.
I believe the same thing about cholesterol. People on very low cholesterol diets force their liver to convert fat to cholesterol, resulting in a release of bad LDL cholesterol. If you eat enough eggs and steak and have a sufficient cholesterol intake to meet your needs, then the liver can rest and do other things, and it doesn’t flood you with bad LDLs.

Yep, I have a nephew in his late 40’s that has sleep apnea, and suffered for years with acid reflux. It wasn’t until he almost died from the flu that he went to be tested, and the doctor told him it was the worst case of sleep apnea he had ever seen. He now uses the mask and oxygen at night, and his acid reflux has gone away since I’m sure they also put him on medication. I was tested for it at a sleep lab but didn’t exhibit enough symptoms through the night to be diagnosed with it. The doctor told me that my specific GERD problems were most likely caused by my second son who was almost 10 pounds. He said many women who have had children, end up with damage to the esophageal sphincter muscle which is supposed to tightly seal the acid from coming back up from the stomach. I had heartburn throughout my whole pregnancy, and suffered with it for over 20 years until I told my family doctor about it. Been heartburn free ever since.
Thanks for the data, but as someone with stage four squamous carcinoma, I’ve done a ton of research on the subject.
Per everything I’ve found on the subject of acidity versus alkalinity, it’s vital to maintain high ph in the body to starve and kill cancer.
I’m doing the best I can to do just that, and feel that I’m making progress.
I was showing pre-diabetic in my blood work so controlling myinsulin was key

I swear by it. I have a GP go to every month who measures my blood pressure, weight, and vitals. Every three months I get blood work done. Every six months he does, a comprehensive workup including weird measurements of fatty liver and other stuff that some giant machine he has can someone measure. Every year I get my GI doc to do the annual upper endoscopy.
Bottom line: since I started intermittent fasting / low carb-high fat I've lost over 70 pounds, my blood pressure went from border line hypertension to normal, my A1C went from pre-diabetic to normal, my HDL/Tiglicerides ratio has cratered (that's a good thing). There is no measure of the blood that says I'm anything but optimally healthy. And biopsies of my esophagus have all been normal. I encourage anyone facing diabetetes of other health situations to strongly look into it.
Must have good ins. Medicare/Tricare Life DICTATES what test/treatments and how often. Mammo’s are the 1 they want you to do yearly. Upper Endoscope was yearly, then went to 2 yrs, this year it went to 3 yrs. I watch everything I eat/drink no sodas, limit on coffee and black tea, mostly drink green tea. I don’t need Bezors to form and them starting to chop sections of my intestines out. 2 small meals a day and I do good to do that. Meats are the high intake, but can’t go to high or joint pain goes up.
I have a Cardio, Endo, Gastro, Neurologist, and Ophthalmologist who occasionally has to send me to the Cornea Specialist. Besides the Internist. Endo says Primary’s can’t read the reports correctly, he went to med school 4 extra years just for Endocrine system, where the Internist might get 1 course on it.
Anyway a good doctor is worth their weight in gold, find one you trust and never let go BUT also do your research and question everything they say because nobody's perfect. A really good doctor will acknowledge their own deficiencies and listen. A bad one will ignore you and write a script without worrying about what's really going on.
Yup. Too many people don't understand the difference between blood and urine. The human body is highly capable of dealing with (at least in the short term) even our worst choices in food and beverage whether it's from highly acidic or highly alkaline sources. Homeostatic mechanisms maintain blood pH between 7.35 and 7.45.The pH of fluids both inside and outside cells remain nearly constant despite adding to, or the body's manufacturing of strong acids and/or bases.
All of the acid/alkaline diets that get touted so often these days are total BS.
Your liver will determine your serum chlesterol levels and diet can do little to offset what your liver is genetically programmed to do. That's why statins have been so effective. It's also why family history is so important.
My Gastro helped pioneer the fiber optics for colon screens. But not really a great area for the best doctors who want big bucks. Memphis is a 2 hr round trip drive from us. Our little berg has 1 GP, 1 PED, 2 Physios 1 Ped Dentist NO adult one. Cardio comes in half a day 1 day a week for minor stuff. Hospitals suck.
Have to say the Specialist I see are great, I have more issues with the Internist Primary. Their education level is not all that great, watch watchers, don’t have the education for handling a Multi health patient. Had 1 but he was forced to retire because of his health. Next 1 was I don’t give a crap, not sure what this new last 1 is like I got a 10 min visit and lab work. Idiot called said to stop my D3 as it was .3 tenths over the high limit. My ENDO would laugh at that. Then he started on the Cholesterol DUH 5 reactions and you want me to try another? NO THANKS. With GP your Tris are always high. LDL is borderline at best. HDL is real high 75/85.
