Drinking baking soda could be an inexpensive, safe way to combat autoimmune disease

A daily dose of baking soda may help reduce the destructive inflammation of autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, scientists say.

They have some of the first evidence of how the cheap, over-the-counter antacid can encourage our spleen to promote instead an anti-inflammatory environment that could be therapeutic in the face of inflammatory disease, Medical College of Georgia scientists report in the Journal of Immunology.

They have shown that when rats or healthy people drink a solution of baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, it becomes a trigger for the stomach to make more acid to digest the next meal and for little-studied mesothelial cells sitting on the spleen to tell the fist-sized organ that there's no need to mount a protective immune response.

In the spleen, as well as the blood and kidneys, they found after drinking water with baking soda for two weeks, the population of immune cells called macrophages, shifted from primarily those that promote inflammation, called M1, to those that reduce it, called M2. Macrophages, perhaps best known for their ability to consume garbage in the body like debris from injured or dead cells, are early arrivers to a call for an immune response.

In the case of the lab animals, the problems were hypertension and chronic kidney disease, problems which got O'Connor's lab thinking about baking soda.

I think the treatments you went through are what my doctor mentioned to me the last time I had a Gastroscopy. So far my dysplasia is controlled, but he said if it ever does turn cancerous, that there are procedures they can do that have been very successful.

Will it work if you put the baking soda in buttermilk biscuits, or peanut brittle?

Had an aunt who was taking alma seltzer every day for indigestion. No idea what it did to her spleen, but it sure raised her blood pressure.

“No, it does not raise the pH of the human body.”

it WILL however definitely raise the pH of human urine. I tried an experiment ob myself with baking soda after studying the bullshit about acid/alkaline diets, wondering if plain ol’ baking soda would raise the pH of my urine.

Boy did it ever! used litmus-type pH strips before and after ingesting baking soda, which turned the damned things purple afterwards! Very doubtful that the baking soda changed the blood pH one whit, which is the BS nonsense claimed for acid/alkaline diets, namely that certain foods change the blood pH and the way to measure that is by measuring urine pH ...

Probably. There are two ablation techniques, one uses microwaves to burn the top layer off and has been around for a while. It works and has a long track record of working well, Barrett's gone.

The one I got was more experimental but my doc is sort of the pioneer in it and her research says it's easier on the body, etc. She felt strongly that it would be better for me because of the length of the segment and I think she made up a study for me because the insurance wouldn't pay for "experimental" therapies. Literally, I think she created and got funding for a study just for me. So I was ridiculously lucky to get this done for free. I did get asked to allow like 20 doctors be in the room to observe when I got one of the procedures, most from south america and Europe no less. Crazy. How could I refuse? So I'm an internationally renowned medical oddity.

I’ve been brushing my teeth with straight baking soda for the last fifty years. Enough goes into my stomach to keep me healthy. In case of acid reflux from eating too much I keep a box of baking soda and a bottle of water right by my bed.

I agree. It almost immediately relieves the acid. And icing on the cake is the giant burp. Drives my wife insane.

Did you know that sleep apnea can create gastric reflux issues? It’s due to constant diaphragm stimulation during sleep because the airway gets obstructed and the body responds to grasp for more air. Sleep apnea is often under diagnosed and under treated but it’s a serious detriment to health issues. For those who sleep alone may not even know they have it.

Just be aware the original has aspirin in it. You can get it without aspirin at Walmart, though.

This is bull poop advice. Most people will glance over the title and miss the important part. Here it is: [when] "healthy people drink a solution of baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, it becomes a trigger for the stomach to make more acid to digest the next meal and for little-studied mesothelial cells sitting on the spleen to tell the fist-sized organ that there's no need to mount a protective immune response."

The stomach is supposed to be very acidic; about pH 1.2. That is why people need to consume Salt, so the body can make acid. A highly acidic stomach breaks down food and also destroys many harmful pathogens.

You have it reversed. Cancer results from cellular anoxia. It only appears acidic because the cells then consume sugars and expel acids as waste.
