On April 13, UK Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow said that “the Russian state has a record in state-sponsored assassinations including in the UK.” It is not the first Russophobic statement made by a UK official...but it’s not the main point... Maybe the UK Ambassador does not know his own country’s history, role and involvement in processes that took place in other countries over the past centuries...

Not going to defend the slur but: there is now a half-black American in the British Royal Family and most Africans in the Commonwealth (former Empire holdings) are loyal to the Crown. Sure, you can find a way to dismiss those things but let's just say the same cannot be said for most former Soviet (Slavic) countries like Poland. Part of the reason why is Russia's refusal to acknowledge their perpetration of genocide even against their OWN people.
Don’t forget who set up the first “Concentration Camps” in South Africa in 1900.
The British Empire did during the Boer War and thousands of Afrikaner whites and native blacks died in them.
The Afrikaners remembered and took power in South Africa in 1948 bringing in their revenge of sorts called Apartheid.

One thing about Stalin’s crimes I learned about from the “right-wing” radio show (”Voice of Americanism”-Dr. William Steuart McBirnie) in the 1970’s was “Operation Keelhaul” when millions of Russians were forced back to the USSR by the US-UK and their fate in the Gulag (they had seen the West and or fought for Hitler).
Solzhenitsyn noted it in “Gulag Archipelago” putting blame on FDR and Churchill.
A book was written about it here in the USA called “Operation Keelhaul” and I read an account of this disgusting thing in of all places the autobiography of William Sloane Coffin, anti-Vietnam War cleric.
Coffin was involved in it during his military service.

Let's not underhandedly imply that the countries of the former Soviet space or its satellites around the world still under communism's lingering impact are doing better. (Ahem North Korea, Cuba, etc...as examples.)
If you want to single out Russia - the country has a long way to go before it deals with its: low birthrate, keeping the Islamic republics of Chechnya and Dagestan in check, building peace in East Ukraine, and getting their neighbors like Poland to trust them again. Countries like Armenia struggled for years under Russia's shadow, but like Georgia, Kazakhstan, and others - are only now gaining a sense of themselves again and de-communizing.
Also in terms of the Middle East, the Soviet Union did *more* damage than the Brits/Americans in its KGB efforts to befriend Arabs, destroy Israel, and its propping up of brutal Soviet-friendly dictators with their failed socialist economics leading to chaos down the road. Much of which we see at work today.
The British Army created the concentration camps as part of a campaign against Boer guerrillas fighting against the takeover of their independent republic. Civilians were herded into the camps from their farms, but the insanitary conditions cost many their lives as hunger and disease ran rampant. Between June 1901 and May 1902, of the 115,000 people in the camps, almost 28,000 died, about 22,000 of them children. The death toll represented about 10 per cent of the Boer population.
