SAN FRANCISCO Apples chief executive, Timothy D. Cook, may be the leader of the worlds most valuable public company, but lately he has had to act a lot like the tech industrys top diplomat.
Last month he visited the Oval Office to warn President Trump that tough talk on China could threaten Apples position in the country. In March, at a major summit meeting in Beijing, he called for calmer heads to prevail between the worlds two most powerful countries.

Just now, they realize that may be an issue?
(I hardly think so)
let’s see, the welfare of our country on one hand, and on the other, the welfare of a single corporation . . .
country wins every time.
Surely Apple didn’t think that the gravy train was infinite, did it?
Fredo, youre my older brother and I love you.
But dont you ever, ever take sides against the family again.
Google?
Maybe it'll help if you join the rest of Silicon Valley and pull out all the stops thwarting and excoriating Donald Trump and throwing shat at the people who voted for him.
Actually I am not worried about whether people at a company are pro- or anti-American. Companies don’t actually vote.
I do however, want companies to make things in America.
Apple (and lots of other companies as well) make far, far, far too much of what they sell to Americans.
In China.
That is a big, big problem.
And it is getting even bigger, all of the time.
They have had more than a year of early warning, and were allowed to repatriate a dragon’s horde of their overseas profits back home under the tax reform, before the trigger gets pulled on the Chinese communists. So they need to get ready.
From a Reuters article on Apple’s main assembler, Foxconn:
“The biggest challenge were facing is the U.S.-China trade war. In terms of how we manage and adapt, this is something all our high-level managers are making various plans on, Chairman Terry Gou said at the companys annual general meeting.”
Whole supply chains are going to have to be ripped out of China, and transplanted here. Its going to be MAGA!
A bit of poetic justice for going after the state of Indiana over defense of marriage?
They could use their influence to urge China to obey the law and use good business practices... but they know China never will.
Not just Apple.
Intel too.
Why was the original headline added to when it is not allowed in Free Republic?
Why did you link to a pay site?
Apple with their foreigner programmers, well, nobody cares. Go back to Communist China and we Americans shall play a violin.
These Global Socialists are such ignorant losers.
Oh boo hoo hoo.
I did not link to a pay site.
I do believe however, that if you read a certain number of articles there in a month, it does BECOME a paid site.
I had not, so I read it ok, and posted aok.
You may have already reached the limit. So the site becomes one, for you.
I have linked that way to articles, posting on FR, for years. Post the original headline as printed. Then sometimes my own editorial comment, in ().
I have seen that a lot, on the site.
This is the first time anyone has complained, that I am aware of.
Interesting, the power that Apple has, even here.
Someone here linked a plug-in that gets your through their “firewall”.
I think it works on multiple browsers.
The plug-in is called Bypass Paywalls.
Works great on firefox!
Suicide net makers are concerned....
