The recently anointed richest person in the world, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, says we need to colonize the moon and time is of the essence. ..."
Speaking at the Space Development Conference in Los Angeles over the weekend, Mr Bezos made the argument that in order to protect Earth and allow the human species to continue growing, we need to move much of our industrial activity to the moon, or even asteroids.
The 54-year-old billionaire said moving heavy industry into solar-powered space outposts is the only way to ensure that our planet can cope with the rising demand for energy and the stresses of a growing population.
We will have to leave this planet, he said, according to Geek Wire.
Were going to leave it, and its going to make this planet better. Well come and go, and the people who want to stay, will stay.
Mr. Bezos believes it will happen in our lifetime because the human race has little alternative.
The alternative is stasis, he said, adding that without space settlements, societies around the globe will have to stop growing due to environmental and other constraints.
Thats not the future that I want for my grandchildren, or my grandchildrens grandchildren.
The US government has stated it wants to pursue sustainable outposts in space and the Trump administration has shown renewed interest in returning to the moon. The Amazon CEO expects US government funding to play a vital role in efforts to build habitats in space but said his rocket company, Blue Origin, would push on with its mission even if it doesnt receive funding help from NASA.
It wont be done by one company or by NASA, he said but by thousands of companies working in concert over many decades.

Makes a lot of sense, to move to a body that has 2% the volume and 7.4% the surface of the earth.
Like leaving an overcrowded apt and moving into a microwave oven.
So you are saying that you have to haul even more to reach your 16 ton quota for the day?
How long is a day on the moon anyhow?
Any holidays off?

It will be the only way to escape islam.
Lex Luthor needs to leave Earth. Ask Brainiac for a lift.
If we aint got off this one by then none of the rest matters.
Just a footnote in some alien archeologists book on
extinct planets...
If it pays. Otherwise its just a temporary ego booster thing for rich twirps.
It may be Bernie from the crypt, y’know! But I am glad that you have a ranch to utilize to hopefully stay out of the reach of tanks.

The good news is, Bezos will only be around for maybe another 20 years, flappin' his big fat mouth about global warming, and the need for more H1B visas -- but meanwhile could wind up getting elected President of the United States. Thanks ETL.

Typical leftardy.
SJW’s always;
Lie,
Project,
Double Down.
This is an example of SJW projection. The truth is *we* need him and his fellow travelers to GTHO the planet.
He’s right. We’re due for a large asteroid collision. Few, if any of us, will survive it.
That’s the first image that came to mind.
Thanks!
Every colonization project in human history has met these prerequisites. And right now even the baby steps look like tremendous leaps. Doesn't mean we can't take them, but it does mean we'd better not imagine it's going to be easy.
Another C02-is-toxic-humans-are-evil lunatic.
all in favor of Bezos leaving raise your hand...
wow! the planet tilted!
I like a visionary, except this guy.
Mr. WAPO can step off any moment as far as I am concerned.
