In one of the more beautiful moments of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding, guests were treated to a performance of "Stand By Me" by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir.
The song was performed following Bishop Michael Bruce Curry's address at St. George's Chapel in Windsor. Watch and cry and sing along and watch and cry again:

While everyone has 100% danced to the song at every wedding reception they've ever been to since it was released in 1961, TIME magazine points out that Meghan and Harry's decision for the choir to sing the song at their wedding marks a symbolic turning point for the monarchy.
During the civil rights movement in America, "Stand By Me" rose to popularity during as a "rallying cry for solidarity amongst people of color"
The marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose mother Doria Ragland is black, is already a significant moment for the monarchy. As British writer Lola Adesioye asks to TIME:
"How did this girlwho is not only of color, but didnt go to the same schools or universities as the royals, who wasnt even raised in the U.K., and so has all these points of difference and othernessget to this place? It says a lot about diversification.

Your original post is one of the most racist pieces of crap on this thread.
Lashing out because you got caught, huh.
Exactly that. Very refreshing too that no politicians were invited. No Prime Minister, no Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition, just a proper Wedding.
bgill, I think that most didn’t even notice what the musician was wearing or how his tie was done. We were entranced by his playing and his devotion to his expression of the music.
Got caught, to help you, I watched the TV to get the jest of the setting - after 15 minutes went back to bed to listen to the service. I guess for anyone that has to WATCH a crowd reaction to understand a sermon, probably does not have enough understanding to get it.
What exactly did i get caught at.
The 'other black guy'? You mean the Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London?
Hilarious.
As for how Harry got in her attention.....Clearly Royalty, Knight in Shinning armor, sweep me off my feet Prince type of story book thinking.
I was so profoundly impressed I've watched it over and over again. The choice of music equally impressive.....the guy has mastered his instrument along with pulling into the moment with him. I was fully mesmerized! Takes alot to impress me musician and voice wise...but this guys the real deal and the whole package.
No I don’t believe you have it right at all.....this kid plays with the best of orchestras etc. already. So you really jumped the gun there.
Look, Harry’s mission in life is the African people, he spends most of his time working among the tribes there......she’s part black ...so of course they were going to show her and his cultural interests. It’s THEIR wedding.
For the same reason Obama’s always hugging up to Harry....and they’re all global liberals.
I listened several times since the wedding......kids got quite the career as well for so young. I think his selection of music was interesting as well. Just a very good presentation all in one package!
I really don’t think you want a white Gospel choir, if you can avoid it.
Yes, sorry I didn’t read the whole thread before commenting.
I agree with your praise of this young musician — this exposure may have just made him a star, as well.
It was certainly a spectacle. The astounded reactions of the blue blooded was priceless.
I have watched a few times too.
You are right, he already is a star beginning to garner top accolades. I immediately was impressed with what seemed to be his personal interpretation of the songs. The way his hands held the bow so gently and precisely.
I understand he recently released an album. I’m buying it!
BTW, I took the time to read up on “Stand By Me”:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_by_Me_(Ben_E._King_song)
Ben E. King wrote it after a psalm and composed “church songs” routinely. So it’s not completely out of place in a religious ceremony.
And, even though much is made of the partly “American” ceremony with gospel being an American music genre, the Kingdom Choir is British.
“It says a lot about diversification.
Isn’t there a difference between “diversification” and “diversity”? I think the writer meant the latter. (I could be wrong.)
He has two things available on Amazon. In the CD, he includes among the classical pieces a version of Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’. In the other, a version of Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’. He’s only 19 years old and comes from a large family all devoted to music:
It was lovely. (Y’all know how to do this stuff right ;-)
The choir reminded me of that movie with whoopie goldberg where she has the nuns sing...”I will follow Him”.....
