GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A 5-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear overnight in east Orchard Mesa.
The girl had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday to investigate noises she thought were being made by her dog, the girls mother told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers.
But the girls mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a large black bear dragging her daughter, CPW officials said. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it. Their home is in the east Orchard Mesa area, above the Colorado River corridor, officials said.
The girl was transported to St. Marys Medical Center in Grand Junction with serious injuries, CPW said. Radio traffic from first responders said she had been bitten on her back and near her head.

Yeah. The truth is a very under appreciated force these days...
AND they are not all black. There are blondes and browns and so called cinnamons ..... and they can run very fast.
Grizzly or Brown bear sows with cubs are more likely to attack, but generally don’t try to eat you afterwards. Black bear males are more likely to see you as prey. James Gary Shelton has written three or four books about bear attacks and he states that black male bears around the age of three are usually most involved in attacks.
Philly animal control just caught a coyote in a city parking lot.
As an aside, some of them like to shop for candy.
And just think a mere twenty years ago it was rural where you could leave vehicles and houses unlocked and not worry. Now we have guns in the night stands and shotguns behind every door. Ain’t urbanization grand?
I used to see coyotes walking down my street when I went to work in the morning. Saw fresh bear tracks while out hiking one time.
“Aint urbanization grand?”
A while back I walked into the VA hospital while some of the non-veteran office weenies were putting up a “diversity” display.
One of them looked at me and said something, I didn’t care what. The only thing I had to say was, “Diversity is where nations go to die.”
Sounded like somebody’d tossed a weasel in the hen house.
“Now we have guns in the night stands and shotguns behind every door.”
If I hadn’t lost my weapons in that boating accident, I’d probably be loaded for bear right now.
All black bears are wimps until they aren't. Then you've got a problem on your hands and hopefully, you have a gun. Black bears might be weenies compared to grizzlies but they are more than enough for any human being.
Bear scat full of little brass bells, too.
It's the Nat. Park itself that dubbed them "wimpy," and that was in comparison to Black Bears elsewhere, because they have never attacked anyone here. Numerous encounters on trails and in campgrounds but for whatever reason they have, so far, always turned tail and run.
Here is something that is probably much more likely to hurt someone around here, although, again so far, they never have injured anyone.
Is it time yet to talk about how California progressives bought and paid for a ballot initiative banning all practical ways of bear hunting in Colorado? Bear problems have increased ever since. And, with increase in population, those young boars have to go somewhere to establish new territory.

The explosion of bear and other predator numbers is huge. The eco-nuts want to introduce Mexican & Canadian wolves to further kill off family ranchers with their free range, grass feed cattle.
The lefties must be paid for by Monsanto feed lots and democrat billionaires like Soros / Tom Steyer selling growth hormones ?
Yes, but they are all members of the black bear family, which comes in all those color phases.
I will draw the line at wolves. If I ever see one it will die.
I meant to add, song dogs are bad enough in packs.
Obviously.
