When Pia Wurtzbach brought back the Miss Universe crown in 2015 she received a heros welcome. Ayala Avenue, the main road of Manilas central business district was closed off midday, during a weekday and people gathered in their thousands carrying signs, waving flags and tearing up as they greeted the newly crowned beauty queen.
It was a day of national pride for Filipinos. For the first time in 42 years, a Filipina brought home the most coveted crown in the beauty pageant industry. And in a country where pageants are followed and cheered on as much as the Superbowl, the turnout was not surprising.
WHY DO FILIPINOS LOVE BEAUTY PAGEANTS?
Makoy Manlapaz fell in love with beauty pageants at the age of 11. He said it was the outfits that first drew him in. As he grew older, he began to love the process of a beauty pageant; the months of intensive training which turns young girls into graceful, charming women.
Im really fascinated with history culture with language so it translates, he said. I cant afford to go to other countries to experience the culture, language and history but through beauty pageants like Miss Universe, even if you are sitting on your sofa watching TV, you are already travelling by listening to them tell their story about their countries and their experiences."
As an avid fan, he has spent years collecting memorabilia on the different beauty pageants in the Philippines and worldwide. He has spent hours putting together albums with clippings of previous beauty pageant winners and said this is only a fraction of his collection....

Travel to the RP on business and stuff, yeah, they have a pageant every week and at every major mall. My favorite is the bikini pageants. Never got tired of them ;)
If you watched such a thing here you’d be considered a “dirty old man” I’m sure.
They’re all over the place. Even Makati, Bonifacio, EDSA Mall and as far as Laguna. All Robinsons and SM malls have them. Im not complaining ya know?;)
Better than the hard-edged, unfeminine women here who keep trying to one up each other on how cold and cruel they can be.
Good on these girls.
Every Filipino I came to know drives a Mercedes. Filipino men love golf as well, and I attended a Filipino golf tournament of about 80 players. I think there were 50+ Mercedes parked in the parking lot. It is a status symbol.
Imelda Marcos was a beauty Pageant winner.
One of my best friends was eating at a nice restaurant with his date in Manila. They noticed Marcos eating by herself at a nearby table.
They introduced themselves and she was very friendly. Even posed for pictures with them.
This thread is useless without pictures. LOTS of pictures.

Hi!
So what is the possibility a LIFE RESET, say back to 25 years old, when we had choices and paths we could follow?

Everyone needs a hobby
That's it. I'm just here to admire the outfits.
My brother is married to to a Pampangeno. (from Pampanga) but we all went to Cebu for the wedding, not stateside. I have always asked how a 3rd world country host so many damn malls? I know they are air conditioned (thank God, because the heat is hotter and more humid than Texas summers) but other than I have no clue..
