LATER THIS YEAR, Amazon will begin accepting grocery orders from customers using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the federal anti-poverty program formerly known as food stamps. As the nation’s largest e-commerce grocer, Amazon stands to profit more than any other retailer when the $70 billion program goes online after an initial eight-state pilot.

But this new revenue will effectively function as a double subsidy for the company: In Arizona, new data suggests that one in three of the company’s own employees depend on SNAP to put food on the table. In Pennsylvania and Ohio, the figure appears to be around one in 10. Overall, of five states that responded to a public records request for a list of their top employers of SNAP recipients, Amazon cracked the top 20 in four.

OH BOY! Who has Amazon pissed off! This was reporting strictly reserved for Walmart, et. al. Just the evil Walmart, driving mom & pop stores out of business, and then paying the employees substandard wages...

Oh Amazon...

I didn’t learn much from the article. Are the employees on SNAP part time? Are they new to the workforce and need to get experience & promotions? Do they have particularly large families? Are they under-educated and lucky to get warehouse work at any wage?

I know a few people, including my FR son, who are current or former amazon employees. They seem to do OK, but then, they aren’t working in the warehouse, either. People usually complain about the hard work at amazon, not the money.

Am I the only person left who doesn’t look at a “job” as an “entitlement”?

I’m 72 (retired now) and of the jobs I’ve held over the years, it always worked like this:

- Company needs help
- I apply for job
- I interview for job
- Employer tells me about the job, and the pay offered
- I make choice to take the job, based on whether:
a) I can to the job
b) I’m willing to do the job
c) I can live on the pay offered.
- I take the job

I never worried if the CEO, or the company made more money than me...if they didn’t, they couldn’t afford to give me, and others, jobs.

It’s basic...company needs help, company sets the pay based on what it’s worth to them to get the job done; I take the job, and go to work everyday.

If I find work I like better, or that pays more, I am willing and able to quit, and take the new job.

Companies, corporations, and CEO’s will ALWAYS make way more than individual employees. Whining about it will not get you a raise, and could get you Unemployed.

Want to make their salaries...then get the training, the experience, the success, and the attitude to be a CEO, and go for it...otherwise, STFU.

Amazon's tax load has little to do with the wage they pay warehouse loading dock flunkies.

Amazon is not the real problem imo.

More specifically, given that the Founding States gave the “power of the purse” (1.7.1) uniquely the the House of Representatives, the real problem is the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification Senate that lets the likewise corrupt House get away with unconstitutional taxing and spending, vote-winning food stamps not listed among Congress’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.

The remedy …

Patriots need to finish the job that they started when they elected Trump president.

More specifically, patriots now need to be making sure that there are plenty of Trump-supporting patriot candidates on the 2018 primary ballots, candidates who will support Trump in leading the states to repeal the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments.

Patriots must then pink-slip career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to DC on election day.

And until the states wake up and repeal 17A, as evidenced by concerns about the integrity of the outcome of Alabama's and Pennsylvania's special elections, patriot candidates need to win elections by a large enough margin to compensate for possible deep state ballot box fraud, associated MSM scare tactics, and interference from people like Soros.

No you are not the only one.

The point is Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos gets involved with left wing politics and politicians through his money and him owning the Washington Post, the whole time taking advantage of the taxpayers in many ways - he should have STFU and stayed under the radar.

Agreed. Bezos had a pretty sweet deal going here. The hubris that pushed him to buy the WaPo and turn it on Trump as a weapon will prove his undoing.

Add this to the US Postal deal he has, he uses these unfair advantages, pays off politicians and sphews their BS through WAPO - all the while putting other retailers large and small out of business.
He also does very little about counterfeit goods from China being sold all over Amazon.

I don’t like Bezos either, because of his lefty policies, but, he found a niche, and followed it to fruition.

You sound a bit envious because he’s rich.

Soros is a lot more of a threat than Bezos...unless Bezos is hiring busloads of protestors, and trying to buy elections.

Either way, rich assholes on the left exist, we have to deal with it, because they’re not going anywhere, anytime soon (unless some miracle occurs).

What’s making these people rich is not so much the taxpayers, but - like Walmart - it’s the zillions of customers shopping with them. True, they really don’t deserve the tax breaks, but maybe the tax laws need to be changed to accommodate that.

I still stand by my original thread, that an employee voluntarily agrees to his pay rate when he takes the job. Raises are not a given...some people work for years for the same rate of pay.

Job pay is based on what it’s worth to the EMPLOYER...not, the employee. Want more pay, get more skills, work harder, and have some pride in your work.

Lessons to be learned from this include food stamps are too easy to get.

That’s odd. I don’t recall the WaPo being friendly to the interests of Trump’s base before it was sold. If anything, I’ve noticed it break ranks lately with the NYT, if only occasionally.

Every restaurant in town has a big EBT sign in their windows. Uh, hello, they can afford to shop online for their groceries and go out to eat while this tax payer cooks from scratch after scrounging the grocery shelves for sales and reduced items. Something is wrong with this. Tighten up the limits on the grifters and limit their time on the dole.
