NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio - Visitors to the Sandy Ridge Reservation on Sunday witnessed a traumatic nature event when a non-resident bald eagle attacked the eagles nesting there.
As birders and trail walkers watched in horror, the invading eagle repeatedly thrashed at the nesting female with its sharp beak and talons, eventually driving it away.
The gravely wounded female was later found on a roadside in North Ridgeville and taken to the rehabilitation clinic at the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center, where it died, said Senior Park Naturalist Tim Fairweather.
But the invading eagle wasn't finished with its assault.
Photographer Daniel Grossi arrived at the nest site about 5 p.m. to find the male on the nest keeping watch on the eaglet. The female invader was perched nearby for at least two hours, eyeing the nest, he said in a Facebook post.
About 7 p.m., the female dove for the eaglet and scuffled with the male. Then she flew away with the eaglet clutched in her talons, he said.
The male screamed, but did not pursue the female.
"It was the worst thing I have ever seen," said Caroline Gerace Martinsen, who witnessed the event and posted her sighting on Facebook. "I hope I never see anything like that ever again."
"I checked the nest this morning and there are no adults or eaglets," Fairweather said.
One eagle cam viewer said he was watching the nest online when the camera suddenly went dark. When the picture returned online a short time later, the nest was empty, according to a Facebook post from Jeff Barnes of Elyria. Glitches on bird cameras are not uncommon.
On Monday, the Lorain County Metro Parks posted a message on Facebook about the attack.
"Sad to report that the resident female Bald Eagle was attacked by another female

I saw the sweetest thing yesterday: this little bird was taking a nap on the pavement, and a kindly old crow swooped in and took it for a ride, I guess helping it back to its nest where they shared some afternoon tea and scones.
(Reality: Dead little bird, after flying into a window, was scooped up by a crow in the crows beak and then the crow flew away to eat it)
All depends how one looks at a situation I guess. Maybe someone should just tell that poor traumatized woman that the eagles were just playing. And the eaglet will be brought back any day now after spending some time at aunt eagles nest.
Please send those hawks to my domicile post haste. Those pesky squirrels are raising havoc with my bird feeder.
Them Eagle beyotches be crazy.
Nature is not the peaceful harmonious life leftists would have us believe, just like they are wrong on most everything else.
I love it when libs learn the hard way that Disney’s version of nature is far from reality.
Could be that she viewed the pair as competitors for the same food resources. Maybe she’d had a few fruitless hunts and decided that prey was too scarce to feed two families.
Or maybe she was an antifa eagle. Haters gotta hate.
There is no wrath like that of a woman scorned
From the article...
The resident female that died obtained its territory by killing the original female resident.
Also, the resident male was observed engaging in courtship activity with the female interloper, who was sporting a deep gash on her face.
All this sounds very similar to when a young male lion takes over a pride.
Or, on the Jerry Springer show.
I have watched the Hanover Pa eagles nest for four years, it has been tranquil and no aggression from other eagles. This year the two eggs were about a week from hatching and a female intruder eagle began attacking the nesting female. No one is sure what happened because the camera was down but the nesting female disappeared for days. The male sat on the eggs, covered in snow barely moving for days. He finally left to eat. The intruder showed up, ate one of the eggs. The male tolerated the new female on the nest. The remaining egg was not viable however. Then the original female showed up again just recently. One of the eagle experts on the site says to expect more nesting aggression because the eagle population is growing and competing for food and mating.
I believe it! Remember this?
Of course she deserved it for being a democrat and giving a gift to Hillary.
#5 He was carried away and eaten.
The difference is that there is no pride on the Jerry Springer show...

That’s too bad even the natural life of eagles is censored.
