Ok I did something unknown and unreproducible on my XP machine. The taskbar which is at the bottom and held my start button on the left, my quick launches right next to it, and various icons on the right hand side has suddenly zoomed to be twice as big as it was, vertically. Does anyone know how to reduce it back to a single line and still have the quick launch items on it?
Put your cursor on the top line and slide it down keeping your finger on the left mouse button.

The same thing happened to me. Use the mouse to drag the vertical taskbar back to its bottom, horizontal position. Then right-click on the taskbar. Make sure “Lock the Taskbar” is checked.
Tried that. If I do that, my quick launch items go away.
That’s good.

go to an empty place on the toolbar, right click, go up to toolbars, see Quick launch - it should be checked.
Yesterday it worked
Today it is not working

Mine did the exact same thing yesterday.
I just kept fooling with it as everyone is suggesting...trying to use the mouse to pull the TB back to its normal size.
Don’t even ask me what finally worked...suddenly I had the taskbar at normal size, but it was far darker than the usual light blue.
I thought the hell with it, I can live with dark blue, but at somepoint when I was surfing or checking something it switched to light blue again, and since then everything is fine.
Before it cleared up I had been about to try a system restore...you could always give that a whirl.
I have seen an update that caused the “Use small icons on the taskbar” to uncheck, and that produced a result similar to what you described. I don’t remember where that setting is in XP, however. (I have been assimilated.)
Well, I did get mine back to normal size - with one item, Firefox, as the only quick launch item. The setting for taskbar is dark blue. I had deleted everything else from Quick launch, and now I can’t find the programs for Outlook Express or Windows Explorer.
Anybody know what the names/locations are for Outlook Express and Windows Explorer?
MS is intentionally hamstringing Windows 7:
Do you still have the quicklaunch tab?
Can you use it to search for Explorer and Outlook?
Spose you could try to reinstall if you found them, although I doubt they have been uninstalled...you just have deleted the shortcuts.
Keep turning on, off, pull the battery pack, yada. Might have to take it to the shop.
No, I got it back to almost where I want. It has to do with the size of the particular toolbar you are displaying, and the contents. I seem to have had a quick launch toolbar defined that had no items in it. So when I clicked on dont display the quick launch toolbar, it shrank down to one line. When I checked the display quick launch, it expanded to two lines, with the bottom one having no icons.
With a little experimentation I got it back to normal. Just don’t ask me what I did!
Thanks!
The easiest way to fix a task bar issue.Go to start and search for task bar when it comes up click and the task bar window contains options
Actually I think you and I developed and utilized precisely the same keen-eyed solution, and should probably be recognized with a small cash award, if not an ongoing stipend!
