No, I got it back to almost where I want. It has to do with the size of the particular toolbar you are displaying, and the contents. I seem to have had a quick launch toolbar defined that had no items in it. So when I clicked on dont display the quick launch toolbar, it shrank down to one line. When I checked the display quick launch, it expanded to two lines, with the bottom one having no icons.
With a little experimentation I got it back to normal. Just don’t ask me what I did!

The easiest way to fix a task bar issue.Go to start and search for task bar when it comes up click and the task bar window contains options

Actually I think you and I developed and utilized precisely the same keen-eyed solution, and should probably be recognized with a small cash award, if not an ongoing stipend!
