FAIRBANKSA Fairbanks man critically shot a pit bull in Aurora Subdivision on Wednesday evening after it attacked another dog being walked by two girls.
The pit bull was shot twice in the head and later euthanized by a veterinarian, according to Fairbanks police officer Doug Welborn.
The 12- and 16-year-old girls were walking their rat terrier on the 2000 block of Bridgewater Drive when the attack happened. The girls were not injured, but the pit bull's owner was bitten while trying to stop the attack, according to Welborn.
Vern Woods, 80, told the Daily News-Miner he was home watching TV when he saw the two girls come out of their house with their dog on a leash. They crossed to Woods' side of the street and were taking pictures when the pit bull "came out of nowhere at a dead run." . . .

Done for the night.
Why is anyone concerned about a vicious pit bull. What about the little rat terrier?
Since then I despise pitbulls.
I'm aware that the owner has a strong influence on this but the dogs were built to attack without warning, they're strong and have a powerful bite.
If a person wants to keep such a dog they need to not only train it but keep it muzzled while on a walk
I hate pits and strongly dislike cats.
I saw our family friends pit turn at about 7 years of age. Thankfully we all barely made it to safety. The other dog distracted him long enough. I couldn’t get to the house, but made it to the roof of the garage. That dog I knew it’s whole life. It was well raised and a loved dog. Owner came out with his lever 22 and shot it. Well, shot through the screen door that is.
I’ve had other friends have terrible experiences as well. Each to their own, but I won’t take my kids or my hounds near one.
What is a man doing running out of his house with a gun?
Doesn’t he know that we must ban guns to save the children?
Who turned out to be right, after all.
Too funny - Pits have a rep for “suddenly going vicious” - not talking about it is akin to deciding we shouldn’t prosecute so many minorities because it ain’t fair to them even though they commit most of the crimes.....
My daughter was walking her little chihuahua and beagle in the local park. A pit came out of nowhere and attacked the chi and ripped open her stomach. The owner ran over and grabbed his dog and took off. Daughter had to have chi stitched up at the vets and had to pay a large bill. No one knows who this guy is or his dog.
I know too many owners of apartments in cities who don't know how to control dogs and still keep pits or german shepherds. THOSE are trouble -- these dogs need a strong leader.
Few years back, I saw a dog chasing a mailman down the street. Dog was not on a leash, mailman looked terrified. The dog’s owner ran up and wrestled with the dog, finally getting a leash on it. The owner, I’m presuming it was the owner, pulled the resisting dog away. The dog was a pit. I asked the mailman about it when he got to our door. He said the only dogs he’s ever been threatened by on his route were pits.
I love happy endings.
I had a neighbor move in with pit bulls, rottweilers, and other large aggressive dogs. I let him know that if his dogs harmed anyone I feel responsible for, I would harm him. I also began an aggressive stealth operation to have him choose to move away. A little over a year later, his reputation with neighbors, the banks, the police, and the rest of his family, led him to leave, abandoning the house which was sold by the courts, and his family who are much better off now. Operation successful.
“Not by me but freepers hate pits as much as they love cats”......
Well, I don’t like either of them.
“Pit bulls are canine versions of second-generation followers of Mohammed. “
LOL.
“Didn’t know they were so hard to kill.”
Ever try to kill a possum?
Amen
PBs are tough sobs. I had one given to me. Chased a stud colt around a 30 acre pasture until the horse was almost give in. I finally caught it. Administered from a 12 gauge, a load of #4 buck shot point blank to its head. Half of its head was gone and the sob ran off and finally died.
We used crossed ones for hog dogs. They were the take down. Have seen them with their guts ripped out and never make a whimper when we sewed them up.
and rightfully so
Sounds like a real moron for an owner.
Anyone who has a dog that does that should do the right thing and offer to cover expenses, or at the very least stick around.
The guy was probably a criminal.
Did your daughter’s dog make a full recovery?
Pits are magnets for lowlifes.
