The last few weeks I have noticed that my computer shuts down randomly. When it does this a blue screen comes up with a message that my computer will be restarting and then sending the error information that caused the problem to Microsoft. It also has a QR Code showing.
Until recently I have never seen this happen and it seems to happen when I leave the computer on for a few hours.
I am wondering if this is the result of some download from Microsoft.
I had numerous problems with Win 10. I went to Linux. Win 10 just got quirkier and quirkier and I hated Cortina popping up trying to “help” me.
Don’t get any messages here, but both mine and the wife’s laptops reboot randomly without warning.
May sound crazy but....I suspect there is some serious cyber-warfare going on right now.
I have Windows 7 at home, but at work we have Windows 10 and I have seen this happen a few times. Very frustrating when you are in the middle of working on something.
Good luck.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Quick question. What processor do you have and is your Windows 10 a clean installation or an up grade? If an upgrade from what version of Windows?
I have been having similar issues since the Meltdown processor patches. I haven’t really started to try to do a root cause analysis yet because it has been more of an annoyance than a problem. I do believe it is related to the processor patches and isn’t really a Windows problem but that’s just a guess. I am going to look into the system logs later and see what they have to say.
Possibly overheating, or you have bad RAM, or a update or virus doing it. I would start by performing a system restore.
I just wait until the phone rings and the guy with the thick eastern/Farsi accent tells me that my computer is corrupted. He seems always want my credit card number. Is it wrong?
Haha that has happened a dozen times since 1995 to me when Windows 95 came out.
As a coincidence, happened to me just yesterday, and kept happening again and again with the dreaded blue screen.
I reloaded Windows operating system. Problem disappeared.
Only nuisance is, I had to ACTIVATE windows via smart phone, then load 154 updates to my Windows 7 system. But computer is running like new again.
I have not had that problems with my Windows 10.
I haven’t had any issues with Windows 10 doing this, and most often it indicates either you have acquired a virus or have a hardware problem developing. Here is a link that will explain how to access Windows error logging.
If you have an “exception” or “error code” simply pasting the code into a search engine or going to the Windows 10 site and searching for that code often yields an answer.

Hehe was Cortina your ex-wife’s name?
Our SOC is getting ready to do the switch to 10 sometime this spring. My wife’s department upgraded last month..it didn’t go well. My boss made it clear to IT we weren’t upgrading until another department does it successfully..
I assume you’ve rebooted. If it’s a laptop you might try to remove the battery and then reinstall it. I had a problem once that was fixed that way (but I have no memory of what the problem was). I don’t think it would hurt anything to try.
I had a similar problem with a new computer. It was a wireless connection to my modem. I was advised that since my computer was close to my computer, just use ethernet wire connection and that solved the problem.
Tell him no credit card until he sends the nude pictures of Nancy Pelosi.
Does Wally World carry them?
