CINCINNATI - Two 911 calls show that a Cincinnati teenager pleaded for help as he was crushed to death by the seat in his van Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot near his school.
Kyle Jacob Plush, 16, was found dead by his father about six hours after he made the first 911 call, according to WCPO in Cincinnati. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that he died of asphyxia due to compression of his chest.
His death was ruled accidental.
“At this time, there is no indication of foul play or evidence of a drug overdose,” Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said in a written statement. “Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Kyle.”
Sammarco’s statement did not offer details of how Plush was crushed, but Honda in November recalled 800,000 Odyssey minivans because the vehicle’s second row seats can tip forward if not properly latched. The recall was for vans from 2011 to 2017.

Well I’ve learned two things today.
1) A straight-forward sincere comment can be completely taken out of context. My comment was, that this was a very tragic story, but the article was poorly written with a lot of important details left out. It was not sarcastic nor meant as a joke.
2) There is no shortage of self-righteousness on FR.
Teenager calls and says he’s dying, cops call back and get voice mail, say “cool, we’re done here” while kid subsequently dies. That’s crazy. Lawyers will be drooling to get on that case.
Friends of ours were on a commercial ( tourist) fishing boat out in the Gulf off of Texas. The boat caught fire and rapidly sunk. They phoned the Coast Guard for help but none came. Thankfully, everyone on board escaped and floated around in the water with their life jackets. Everyone was rescued by private craft in the area.
When the owner of the boat quizzed the Coast Guard officials about the lack of response, the officials said that they called back but got no answer so they ignored the call for help.

If it’s any consolation, I assumed that when you wrote the phrase “heart crushing” you weren’t trying to be funny but writing it genuinely. Was perhaps a bad choice of words given the tragedy?

They knew his exact location from the very first call becuae it gave the GPS coordinates.
In retrospect, looks like it, I suppose. All I was thinking was as a parent, if this were my child this would have been absolutely emotionally crushing to me.

If you go back and read the article you will find that you are incorrect.
The dispatcher marked it complete as an officer was dispatched. He went looking and actually found a van but saw no one in it.
WSYX is televising a presser. This is horrific. 911 operators screwed up. City PD screwed up. Sheriff’’s department screwed up. Family didn’t know where Kyle was for 5 hours.

I’m reminded of the Entwistle homicide that occurred several years back in Hopkinton, MA. The police got a call from the Mother of a woman who missing. The police searched the daughter’s home and found nothing. the following day, family members again checked the house and found nothing. The third day the police again search the house and due to the odor, find the body of the woman and her child in the bed.
How did the police miss finding a body under the blankets? It’s not like the husband buried the wife under the cement floor in the basement. And it’s not like an adult’s body is that small. One wonders about the power of observation. or lack thereof.
You might guess the husband moved the dead body back to the house on the 3rd day, but he’d fled the country days before.

when I was young an acquaintance named Scott Quackenbush was kicked to death by Tongans because he would not give up his car keys.
Cops went to scene, did not find him. (but blood everywhere). Cops lost interest, told his dad to go away.
His dad went to the scene the next day and found his son’s dead body behind a dumpster 30 feet away.
The police could not be bothered to look there.
How did he get crushed to death??? How did his seat crush him?? How could he not get out?
