I bought a portable charcoal grill and have yet to use it. Amazon used to sell it. They called it the Volcano Grills 3-Fuel Portable Camping Stove/ Fire Pit.

I don't want to set it on the ground as I tend to it. Fun at campsite, but I want to give my squatting muscles a rest. So I was wondering what kind of table I should set it on.
I have a Cabela camp kitchen, but the surface is melamine and they show a propane stove in the picture.
I have used hibachis at parks and the picnic tables are wood, and have had no problem.
But now that we have sold the house with the built in brick gas barbecue grill/ gas stove, I want to use this I have in my prepper kit.
I need to buy something to set it upon that will be safe. Any suggestions?
Get one of those nice looking but cheap imported outdoor side tables, round, inlaid tile or stone top, round, metal legs. It would look pretty when not in use, maybe put a potted plant on it or something. Make sure the legs are wide enough that it wouldn’t fall over with a loaded, lit grill on it though, so not too skinny of a patio side table.
Check with a hearth/woodstove outlet. They’ll have a range of mats and heat shields you can modify to whatever size you require. Or fabricate wood to fit your ideal design and adhese aluminum foil to it with stovepipe cement.
Yes. That would work well, especially since I would put it on the lawn ( not near any over-hangs) and the splatters would go on the grass.
Good points about the legs. I will keep those qualities in mind. This thing is heavy and fire hot.
Thank-you.I am looking at their site now.
“Suddenly, we realized why we were all still holding our roasting forks with marshmallows on them ”
Had to restrain myself from LOL and waking my wife - that mental image was just too much!!
Get a circle or square, big enough to set the legs on, of plywood at least 3/8” thick. You can fasten the feet to the slab of plywood if you wish, to make it more stable. Building supply stores sometimes have them avail able pre-cut, as table tops.
One word: Durock. Explanation: cement board normally used for vertical installs of tile, etc., especially in wet environments like showers. It is also heat-resistant and would ensure no heat transfer from the legs to the elevated surface where you are cooking. It’s heavy so you’ll want to size it to meet your needs with no excess.
Oh, no, I never thought I had to worry about a grill being unstable. A table top to set on my table for my table top grill. Thank-you. Safety first.
Durock. Good new word. I watched the video. Do you think Home Depot will cut it to size for me? And can I keep it outside?

There are plenty of sources for these outdoor patio side tables, and they can be found pretty cheap if price is a motivator. The outdoor centers of any home improvement chain, even Walmart. Online there’s Overstock, Wayfair, or if you’re looking for something more unique try Houzz.
You shouldn’t use treated lumber for a picnic table because of the chemicals..
“Do you think Home Depot will cut it to size for me? And can I keep it outside?”
Possible HD could do that but I’ve never had occasion to ask. As for outside storage, HD may have a salesman’s demo you should see where a small chunk of the product is fully suspended in a closed container of water. You can shake it around and bang the sample against the sides of the container. It will show no degradation or softening.
Here’s a 20” x 17” metal trivet mat that might work:
Get a terra cotta planter tray. Add water if you wish to grill on a babies butt, but they have a lot of thermal mass so probably not needed. Cheap as dirt to boot. Store on the patio turned upside down under a planter. Aesthetically pleasing. Easy Peasy Japanesey.
Add this to your wish list.
I have a little Weber Smokey that I use on a glass table but I place a old plywood sink cutout down and set the grill on that no problems whatsoever.
Go to a home depot and buy a 30”x30” ceramic floor tile. Probably 5$.
Now that is both sad and funny. I can just see you looking bewildered as the victims glared at you with looks of disgust, and your enlightenment as your eyes rested upon your roasting forks with marshmallows on them!
