From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

This weeks blizzard was a fizzle!
I guess that’s a sign that Spring is here.:-)
I don’t know. Don’t have trouble with ants usually. I suspect the water dissolves. I think the idea was to make the tomatoes a bit sweeter. The one time I did it was around the corn, and I sprinkled on cornmeal and that did them in.
I lost all my mini roses last year. Same deal might have been cold or age. I remember reading somewhere that cold weather kill more often than not was due to a lack of adequate watering prior to winter.
No I can’t see it.

how about now? My son and I grow hops and make beer a few times a year as a hobby and a bonding time. He's married and starting a family but we still try to get together and spend some time. He also loves gardening. I had him poking holes and planting seeds when he was just able to walk. Now he does square foot gardening in his small back yard. It doesn't take much space to grow and it's very rewarding.
Started composting this year, used some boards from our stairs which I replaced because they were warped and squeaking. So the wood was free. The top came from an old shed that I converted to a greenhouse so that was free too! My backyard chickens do a great job of turning the pile!

I hope your grandson loves it! I have 1 little granddaughter out of 21 grandkids who loves to garden with me. She’s 6 now and started when she was about 2. She doesn’t care if we’re planting, washing pots or pulling weeds she just loves to garden with me. My gardening joy really multiplies when she’s here. We all should have that.
Sounds like you are experiencing some of the climate shock my mother-in-law is dealing with. We moved her from Wiscasset to our home in Texas last June. She’s had to adjust in many ways, both good and bad. Summer is not the best time for that move. She missed having a season called fall but is enjoying our spring.
Nice pics. Thanks. I was not able to get grand kids interested. I have one daughter who is always noodling around with gardens. My other daughter was gung ho to do sq. ft. gardening.
She gave me a book on it, and I did it. First time I ever managed to grow anything without killing it before harvest. LOL.
The ironic thing is she had a bed built and I bought a bunch of dirt, compost, seeds, etc. but she never got around to planting anything.

I’ve been gardening for a while but now am getting more serious about it since I just retired from a hobby that took a lot of time and money.
I have two green houses now, one I’m doing Solar electric and geothermal for heat and cooling. I’m an engineer by trade so this keeps me designing and problem solving. :) I can post some more pics if you think people would be interested.
Yes indeed, I would like to see them. Plus, hubby is very interested in what we can do for our green house with respect to solar. We have one of those modular jobs that is against the house.
So we open the sliding door and step into the greenhouse. This is useful for extending the season or starting early, but we’d both like to be able grow some stuff in the winter there.
However, in Missouri, it’s too cold and the electric bill is already pretty high, so we’d like to figure out something. Not sure we get enough sun for solar though.

Well this is $1.77 WM soil, bagged, put into buckets but yeah the snow is gone.
Surprisingly, it’s halfway decent dirt. Paid more last year at some hardware store or two - it was all clay.
I check to get the softest bags. Hope to get 2-3 more.
Received a delivery of bare root fruit trees. Probably going to be a week before I can plant them due to low temperatures.
Barb has started seeds down in the basement. If the warmer weather continues, and I am able to uncover that God-awful heavy sink (It was buried with snow due to the Nor-Easter, I will hopefully get her water down there.
We sat down with the DripWorks Garden Planner and laid out the plants for her raised bed garden. I also did a preliminary routing of the underground PVC lines to the beds. I am going to make a permanent manifold, like I had back in the day in California. Of course, it will have a means of draining the lines in the fall.
Barb ordered a soil test kit and we are going to establish a starting point for the condition of our soil...pretty poor, from my assessment.
And so it begins!
Yeah! Back in Wisconsin, in the late 70s, I planted Jerusalem Artichokes. They are an edible weed! They will spread like heck and once in your garden, are nearly impossible to get out!

If it doesn’t rain, we’ll gather more leaves for the burn barrels...
