Sorry for the vanity but my frustration with Firefox drove me here. I'll look on the internet too. After I get my airline reservations done. I've switched over to Pale Moon but wanted to check here.
Over the last few months Firefox goes into process loops that lasts for a minute or two or more. This morning I tried to cross check prices on airline flights using several tabs and Firefox just like dies looping. I don't want to do a reset 'cause I lose settings. Did a reset a couple of months back and lost all my Reminder entries. :<(((
Check your FF settings to see if the updates are automatic instead of manual.
That may be the problem.
It tries to update while in use...................

I have “check but not install”
Haha. Yes. I remember that too. Honestly can't say I really knew what a homo even was. It was much later in life when I learned what homos actually do to each other.
And my grandfather used to refer to everyone he didn't like as a "dirty bugger". Again, it was only years later when I found out what a "bugger" is.
Of course, you might remember the schoolyard game we used to play, "Smear The Queer". One of the greatest games ever invented, and a real workout. I never see kids run and play that hard these days. I don't know if schools even have recess anymore. And no, none of us had any real idea what a "queer" really was.
I’ll try the Comodo thing.
If I were to describe Pale Moon browser in a sentence, it would be, Pale Moon browser is a stripped-down version of Firefox, that leaves out certain features, to focus on speed of browsing. Instead of default Google search that most browsers use, Pale Moon employs DuckDuckGo search engine, so that your searches are not stored anywhere.
That’ll work.
Then it will update only if you tell it to...............
IceDragon features privacy and performance enhancements over the Firefox core browser as well as additional features such as SiteInspector malware scanning, Comodo Secure DNS and improved social media functionality.
But I use it for the security features.
Brave user here as well. Early on their lack of bookmarking was an issue but no more.
Tried to install Comodo and it failed. Wonder if its because I’m still XP Pro?
On to brave. But wait I still need airline tickets. :<(((((((((((((((
I might call Expedia, tell them my computer isn’t working and let them find me flights.
Hmmmmmm Brave is not a valid win32 application. Going down hill fast.
Will Brave work ok with Windows 7?
That seems to be par for the course for most applications and websites these days. They're all being 'improved' to the point of total worthlessness.
I dunno, the requirements say “System Requirements - Windows 8 / 8.1 / 7 / Vista / XP 32/64 bit, 128 MB RAM and 40 MB Hard Disk Space” - so it should work.
I’d dump the XP, tho, out of security concerns - nevermind that less and less programs work with it as time goes along.
You can pick up Win 7 or 8.1 install disks for a reasonable price on Ebay. When 7 & 8.1 are no longer supported I’ll be fully moved to using Linux since I’m not a fan of Win 10 and already use Linux most the time anyway.
You could try installing Comodo IceDragon in portable mode, that might make a difference:

“I may try that Pale Moon many FReepers talk about.”

Pale Moon is pretty good. My only gripe is that it doesn’t have a good video downloader extension.
But I use it as my default browser in Windows in case some app or whatever wants to open my browsers I don’t want it opening any MS browser.
IE and Edge are inter-tangled with Windows itself, Pale Moon isn’t. Plus, I have javascript set to off for when PaleMoon starts up to make it harder for a malicious script/page to run.
I’m guessing this reply isn’t too helpful but i dumped palemoon exactly for the reason you gave, the long process loops on some script. So now i use chrome. oh well
If all you want to do is do a little surfing, check email. etc. then most any browser will do. But for serious research, multiple forum threads and profiles, only browsers of the Firefox family will do, but NOT Firefox Quantum, which is basically a different animal. Chrome will not even allow multiple tab rows, or (last i checked) changing the ctrl+tab switch.
With 3 installations of Firefox and 3 different profile and over 400 tabs open total, my CPU is 4% right now. After a while it will go higher, esp. If some sites throw some scripts that hang. But make sure that you are protected from https://cryptojackingtest.com (run test). I use the MVPS host file http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm which protects from such, as part of God's grace. ">
Now you tell us!:)
I would make a new install of FF 52 ESR in a different place, and then go to the shortcut and right click, go to Properties, and under Shortcut add -no-remote -p to the end of the string in the Target box. One of mine says "C:\Program Files\64-Mozilla Firefox-ESR\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p (the \64 is because it is 64 bit)
Then launch it and create a new profile on the window that comes up. However, it seems
To install Firefox on a Windows XP system, because of Windows restrictions, the user will have to download Firefox 43.0.1 and then update to the current release.
