You need to go to about:support (Troubleshooting info under Tools) and try Restart with Add ons disabled. If that solves it you could Restart and disable them all and then reenable one by one. I had a add on that caused a problem which was found doing like diagnostics.
And you can use the free well used MozBackup tool to back up all or parts of your profile, then restore them to a new profile after following the instructions in the last post. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Saw this before and probably need to try it. Thanks May I ask why you are still using XP? What are your hardware specs?

All I know is Firefox is (compared to Chrome) S-L-O-O-O-W and a memory hog.
That’s all the evidence I need to NOT use a slow, bloated browser.

If it works for you.. but if I tried to make Chrome do what Firefox does then i would have about 400 separate processes running. I need a multi-tool more than a race car, though Firefox ESR is not normally slow for me, even with multitudes of tabs, though having a 40core 4.3ghz CPU and 16GB ram and a SSD HD helps, thanks be to God. I just need to restart it after a good amount of use, since i rarely shutdown the PC.
But if you mainly want is speed to browse a few sites, then Firefox Quantum should be about as fast as Chrome

As I posted earlier, my eyes, not your post, votes for Chrome - not FF - as being visibly faster.
btw, Task Mgr also demonstrates FF is a memory hog.

Used to love firefox then something happened and it drained my work machines resources. Had to give it up after many years. They're doing something wrong over there.
