So, is there a setting or Add-On that is causing this looping? I use Adblock Plus, ReminderFox and Ghostery.

I use Pale Moon for nearly everything. At least 99% of the time. Every once in a while I am forced by some website to use IE or chrome. Why bother with Firefox?

Older versions of Firefox are better than the more recent versions.

Firefox is losing functionality with every update. I put off updating for months and when I finally did everything slows down or times out. I have Chrome for emergencies but don’t like to use it. I’ve had to more and more of late.

I may try that Pale Moon many FReepers talk about.

To check for a faulty extension, you’d need to go through your list and disable them one at a time and test to see if functionality resumes. Time consuming but it’s about the only way to test extensions.

It’s probably pausing while it logs in to NSA.

The problem is that the websites are loaded with so many scripts, most of them third-party which track you and record what you are doing. You would be amazed if you saw how many different outfits are checking you out when you visit a website.

There are a lot of respected add-ons which mitigate these problems. Three complementary add-ons which work well together are HTTPSeverywhere, Privacy Badger, and NoScript. There is a bit of a learning curve with NoScript because it allows selective blocking of annoying scripts.

Other useful add-ons would be an ad blocker such as uBlock Origin or Ad Block Plus.

By the way, Free Republic is about the cleanest straight-up website you will ever find. FR is devoid of this crap, and is a real throwback to the early honest days the Web.

I hate to go against the FR grain, but I’ve found Chrome to be far faster than Firefox these days. I have both Chrome and Firefox on two computers and Firefox has become a real pig on both over time. It takes forever to load and it takes forever to load a page, and that’s with the Ghostery ad blocker clearing a path.

Another vote for Chrome being faster than FF.

As an aside, I was having a problem with one specific webpage displaying correctly.

After running the Chrome Repair Tool, not only did it correct the display problem but Chrome runs even faster now and my desktop loads in only 7-8 seconds, a 50% improvement.

Get rid of Firefox and go with Google. Google sucks but at least everything works.

Yes. Firefox is really going downhill - Right now, I have two tabs open and firefox has to use 7 processes in win7 to run. Several times Firefox will slow down to a crawl and if I dont shut the browser down within a few minutes, the computer will not respond and I have had to pull the power plug, reboot and scan for possible problems - no actual virus or hardware problems found.

The Gov is right in #9. Those more techy might like FF because it IDs all the crap it encounters, which might slow it depending on how it’s configured.

Something like Ghostery and ad blockers can give a count. A TV station web site I check uses over 20 trackers and a dozen ads just for starters. I use NoScript for that very reason. I turn off scripts by default and add what I need. Not everyone is willing to learn which scripts do which.

Yes, I use the Brave web browser too. It is an excellent free browser, and works great out of the box without any add-ons.

Please note. Brave was created by Brendan Eich, creator of JavaScript, and one of the co-founders of the Mozilla project. Brave was created by Brendan, an original developer of Firefox, after he was kicked out as CEO because he donated $1000 to Proposition 8 which protected the sanctity of marriage (i.e. no homo marriage).

If there is such a thing as a conservative web browser Brave is it, and deserves our support.

We boycott FF here on FR because they fired the conservative executive who didnt want anything to do with their faggot policies.

I hate Google too as well, but it serves its purpose..

I hate when firefox starts downloading updates in the background without telling me. That slows down firefox to a crawl too, but I still have full use of my mouse and keyboard, unlike when firefox goes into a “loop” and everything slows down.
Maybe firefox is doing this only for certain websites. Like facebook does to it’s conservative users.

Check your FF settings to see if the updates are ‘automatic’ instead of manual.

That may be the problem.

It tries to update while in use...................
