The guns and ammunition of a 56-year-old Lighthouse Point, Florida, resident were confiscated by police in what is reportedly the first such seizure under gun control laws signed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) last week. The Orlando Sentinel reports that four firearms and 267 rounds of ammunition were taken from the man, and he was taken to a hospital for involuntary psychiatric treatment.
The seized firearms were listed as a Ruger LCP .380 pistol, an M2 Mauser .45 pistol, a Charter Arms .357 mag snub nose revolver and a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun.
The paper notes that the civil ruling removing his access to guns and ammunition was granted under
new legislation which permits confiscating guns from people who have not been committed but are deemed a potential risk to themselves or others, according to the order signed by Browards Chief Judge Jack Tuter.

Totally missing from this story, written in a way to set our hair on fire, is the actual record on this man. Where is it?
Had he placed fear in people or institutions or businesses?
For how long had he been deemed a threat by others, if any?
How many complaints were lodged against him, by others.
How many counseling or psychiatric or clinical recommendations have been proposed for him?
I would have hoped Cruz would have been placed in a clinical setting long ago. Seventeen souls might still be alive on earth.
The sheriff is not the one who issues an ex parte order. Though I certainly agree that Sheriff Israel is not trustworthy.
And redistribute them to somebody more worthy. At last a form of Socialism I could back.
Thanks. This guy seems like a total loon. Probably schizophrenic and off his meds.
Apparently no one died unconstitutionally stealing this man’s property. That is not a good start.
I wonder why the Broward Cowards were afraid to disarm Nikolas Cruz but weren’t afraid to disarm this guy. Doesn’t sound like he was much of a threat to the community to me.
Now is the time to start buying firearms fir self and friends and birthdays and Christmas and St Patricks Day presents
Well if you read the Orlando Sentinel article you will very likely conclude that a sh*t house rat has a firmer grasp on reality than this guy. And not in the “Uncle Al’s a bit tetched.” sort of way.
An ex parte order is a from of due process.
Read the article that has details of this man’s paranoid behavior and statements. Educate yourself on civil procedure, especially ex parte orders.
Look on the bright side. Maybe the police could storm into Liberty City and seize the guns of every thief and mugger on the excuse that they are a “menace to others”.
Oh, wait. That would be racist. I guess the law only applies to whites with no criminal record but a bent for paranoia.
At least I go to sleep amused.
So many things to be angry about...this really doesn’t seem like one of them.
COME ON MAN.
The dude thought the FBI and his shape shifting neighbor were sneaking through his house.
You think he should have any weapons at all?
If so, Imma call your local cops and get your guns taken away.
Just think — when they discovered a gun owner in Germany ,just before WWII, they would publicly execute the guy on his front lawn, by shooting him in the back of his head, and leaving the body on the lawn as a warning. Floridians beware.
I know. So not the Second Amendment hill to die on.
This is not that.
Here. Watch this. It’s funny. You’ll relax.

Anti-American Action!!!
Extremely disappointed in Governor Scott, who has completely caved and forsaken any conservative principles he might have had.
At this point, I would rather have Andrew Pollack run against Bill Nelson.
Pollack also would be a superb governor but I guess Ron DeSantis has dibs on that seat.
Umm actually they would not need any excuse. Thieves and muggers (I’m assuming convictions here) are felons. You know criminals. You know as in not allowed to possess firearms. So law enforcement can and should take their illegally possessed guns away. Surely you knew that.
Exactly.
No one can be committed unless he is judged by police (and psychiatrists) that he's liable to harm himself or others. All states have laws that allow such to be committed--temporarily--(usually just for 30 days--enough to get them stable on their meds). Such folks are just the kind that should NOT have guns.
Only insane people want insane people to have guns.
Get real people.
