DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. - The Douglas County school district is investigating a complaint that a 7-year-old girl played a racist character in a school play.
In a video of the play, Anastasia Bertram can be seen holding up a sign saying, "Please go home" on one side and "Cursed is the man who integrates" on the other side.
Anastasia's parents said she was asked by her teacher, Jamila James, to fill the role of a white girl opposed to school desegregation during a March 2 play at Burnett Elementary School.
Her teacher told the parents Anastasia volunteered after another student struggled to learn the lines and follow directions. But the Bertrams said they had no idea until she was on stage.

Personally, I’d be more upset at the Racist Teacher.
Many of these plays are make-work waste-time play exercises.
The best roles tend to be the villain.

On the other hand, as a music teacher, I have to note that most kids LOVE to play the “villain”.
Anita is a juicier role than Maria in West Side Story.
And Carmen is an infinitely more fun role than the saintly Micaela.
I once had a student who landed the role of Mama Rose (a crazy middle-aged stage mom) in Gypsy. I had to TEACH her how to strut like a stripper! LOL!

This is disgusting. If it is explained to a 7 year old child, he or she is capable of understanding why he is playing a particular role and how it fits into the play.
Political Correctness is pure evil.
Check the pics of the school class - the girl is a minority in that school and this smacks of coverup and support of the teacher.
That aside - what 2nd or 3rd grade class studies divisive and sensitive issues like this?
It’s not like my 3rd grade class explored the Vietnam war or Nixon’s resignation or Reagan’s response to AIDS.
This is social indoctrination and it’s no wonder minorities feel that rioting and violence is the only answer when this is what they’re taught instead of math, reading and writing

Bingo. Stuff like this will just further Balkanize / tribalize the country. And history shows that Balkanized countries usually collapse amid great violence (the collapse of the USSR was a rare exception).

Ridiculously over sensitive white parent. Do they actually think that pretending that integration struggles and race hatred didn’t exist? South and north there was a time in this country where people behaved very badly.
Should have shown how racist whites really are by having a play about whites going to Africa to help feed, cloth, house, and teach. Provide medical help.
