Question: Would a law abiding 18 year old have an age discrimination case against Wal-Mart?

I suppose if Wal-Mart said.they'd stop selling ammo to Muslims, women, or blacks the media wouldn't be applauding their stupid gun stunt.

I thought AGE was a federally protected status.

So I ask if a LAW ABIDING 18 or 19 year old wants to buy a product that is legal in their state of residence, and the multibillion dollar company WAL-MART refuses, is this a civil rights case?

Bake me a cake, sell me a gun...sounds about the same.

Do you support homosexual demands on Christian bakers?

So Walmart would just stop selling all guns and ammo. I’m sure they don’t make a lot in those sales. As soon as so we lawyer files suit they just pull everything off the shelves. People need to be real...

In July of 1971 I came home on leave after almost 2 1/2 years in the Army and was only 20 years old at the time. The drinking age here was 21 so legally I couldn’t drink. Fortunately I had my military ID card so any bars I went into always served me.

When the 21 year old age limit to own guns become law, would the U.S. military legally be allowed to let 18-20 year olds join the service?

The current proposals are to prohibit sales of long guns to those under 21. It does not prohibit possession by those under 21. An example is that current law says you must be at least 21 to buy a handgun or handgun ammunition, but you can own a handgun if you are under 21 (federally. State laws vary.)

It is presumed that those in the military use firearms under strict government supervision and special circumstances apply to them. Another example, those in the military use fully automatic weapons that are not registered under the NFA.

As long as a person is not otherwise prohibited, (felony conviction, domestic violence misdemeanor conviction,) persons in the military are allowed to possess firearms as part of their duties.

I don’t think so.

Local bars and clubs here, some have 25 year old age limits to enter, even back when 18 years could buy alcohol, and they were never sued....................

Maybe they can self-identify as being over 21.

Each state sets its own laws with respect to age discrimination in places of public accommodation, which includes the policies and practices of retail establishments. Federal law and the laws of many states do not prohibit age discrimination, except with respect to employment. Federal law also prohibits age discrimination within federally funded programs.

WallyWorld’s new policy is no different than the policies of many hotels and rental car companies, who refuse business to anyone under the age of 21 or in some cases 24.

Opinions are like Aholes. Everyone has one and they all stink.

1) Kids today are molly coddled jackasses. (See Hogg. Should that jackfruit have a gun? F no.)
6) Then propose a way to prevent selling a gun to an imbecile with violent tendencies who is threatening people regularly. My ears are open.

18 year olds according to the Government are mentally incapable of having a Beer legally! Sad that you can vote and die for your country but you can’t have a beer. Glad I was born in the days when I could go to the local grocery store and pick up beers for my mom and neighbors at 13 and on up.

A cogent argument, to be sure. I find no way around your logic, and so I will step aside.

It doesn’t matter how you see such a possible case

Your view is a non starter. IF you could get a lawyer to take it it will be thrown out

My state assed this and it is useless.

“No, because a Federal Firearm Licensee can refuse to sell a firearm to an individual for any reason.”

They SAY that but they can’t refuse to sell based on race or other factors. If they have a written policy to not sell based on age, and if that is legal in that state, then they are screwed. The ‘any reason’ stuff does not trump any other law.

Please make a case that the limitations inherent in your list are not infringements as in “Shall not be infringed”.

Please make a case that the limitations inherent in your list are not infringements as in “Shall not be infringed”.

I'll play.

District of Columbia v. Heller:

2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.

It will have to be litigated to find out if any or all of LesbianThespian's list are infringements.

Age is only a protected status for old people, and even then largely only for hiring. Not letting people buy stuff for being “too young” has long standing precedents and is 100% AOK. Just ask the RIAA, MPAA and ESRB.
