LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Police in Las Vegas say an employee of the Bellagio casino-resort has been arrested for stealing 25 lobster tails.
Authorities say cook Alex Hernandez was detained by hotel security Sunday after he was caught putting the lobster in his backpack and walking out a back door.
The lobster tails were worth about $1,900.

That’s $76 per lobster tail. A chicken lobster tail is roughly 3 to 4 ounces, which would make it $400 per pound.
Now, maybe these were big tails.
Or, maybe the total is the retail list price charged to non-comped guests for a lobster dinner, not the cost of the lobsters to the restaurant/casino.
Still, theft is theft... but upping the price changes simple theft to grand larceny. Theft is wrong; so is prosecutorial over-charging.
That’ll do in a pinch.
You’ve got to be eleventeen different kinds of stupid to risk your freedom over lobster tails (or any other food, for that matter).
Mmmmmmmm... Lobster... Agghhhhhh...
Casinos dont make money by giving you even odds. But stealing is stealing whether lobster tails or.money.
I wonder if they calculated that number using the price of the lobster on the menu...
My wife worked for K-Mart some years ago. A lot of the jewelry was labeled "Regularly: $1500; Today: $0.75". If a shoplifter was caught, they'd get charged with felony shoplifting of $1500....for costume jewelry.
He was a chef? Fry cook maybe and yeah, looks like a moron.

Same way they calculate inflate "street value" of seized drugs.
Working in a kitchen, almost certainly. I'll go out on a limb and say that his next stop was to a relative or friend running his own little restaurant in a little less luxe part of Vegas.
Appears he’ll need to shell out some time for that!
The workers in Vegas don’t make the kind of money they used to. Tips are way down because they charge for everything including parking at the hotel where you’re staying. I doubt this guy is the only worker supplementing his income.
Kind of like the “Street Value” police estimate on drug busts.
Sounds like with a little styrofoam, dry ice, and a FedEx store, you could have a successful small business.

Shrimp and lobsters were best.
They went fast.
“That’ll do in a pinch”

Worst place to steal stuff is at a casino because you are always under surveillance.
I guess so, we pay $5 for a live lobster here.
