I have subscribed to NFL Sunday Ticket since 1995 and have cancelled my renewal for 2018. I haven't actually used it like I used to for the past few years. God put on my heart that football was an idol in my life. Being in Alaska the games come early and in the past I would skip morning services to watch games, and go to evening services only. I haven't done that for 5 years, I dvr the game(s) of interest and watch them at my leisure. Stopped watching all together mid-season of 2017 and just didn't miss it.
It not just the kneeling thing either. The game has gone to hell. I haven't watched a Superbowl or a Playoff game in the past 2 years. Between the stupid rules, constant instant replays, anti-gun, pro-homosexual, and anti-Americanism I just wash my hands completely of the whole stinky mess that is the NFL. I still have the MLB package but as I get older sports in general just aren't what they used to be. Everything in sports is just too flamboyant these days and I can't stand the gangster rap, players with tats from head to toe, and the constant politicization.
I was always too cheap and not interested enough for the Sunday Ticket - always enough games if i was interested in watching w/o having access to a lot I cared nothing about.
I think the visible drop in ratings and attendance, and the revenue drop represent only a fraction of the actual flight from the NFL this year; so many people had made full-year commitments to season tickets, cable access, and advertising that they couldn’t really back out of. The rest of the iceberg will become clearer in the fall of “18, and it’s going to be devastating. The NFL has decided to rely on the radical left as a patron base. This will be a short but painful death.
Good for you!
I was a Chicago Bears fan for my life to this year. Now I will not watch another game. The NFL leadership and owners should be tried for treason unreported to North Korea.
The past two seasons it has cost $99/yr starting in late July. They half a half-season offer for half-price normally in November.
You get all games from 2012 and beyond, broadcasts of all Super Bowl telecasts except for 1,2 and 4. Live radio calls from home or away broadcasters and games can be presented in full broadcast, condensed broadcasts or "coaches film" style.
See the NFL.com website for additional details.
And now He's pleased that you listened to Him and then acted appropriately.
If you'll bear with me, I'll share briefly the similar stories of two who faced temptations such as yours.
1. A pastor related this story of attending a pastors' conference in Philadelphia. As the day's activities drew to a close and with nothing scheduled for the evening, he said to another visiting pastor, "Say, the Cardinals are in town playing the Phillies tonight. Want to go?" Another attendee overheard and interjected heatedly, "You want to go to a BASEBALL GAME? Really? And you call yourselves Spirit-filled Christians?" Further discussion by the two astonished pastors revealed that this man had made baseball his idol and now had forsaken it completely to avoid relapsing; but now he also went overboard and projected his personal weakness onto others. After they assured him they were merely casual fans, the two enjoyed the ballgame after all.
2. Our Bible-study leader told us about the Christian whom he had challenged to develop consistency in Bible-study. Eventually, he achieved a string of having read his Bible on five hundred straight days, which he happily reported to the leader. The teacher realized the pride that was developing in this achievement and urged him to skip just one day's reading. Very reluctantly our reader complied, but then his Bible-reading became sporadic; his reason for reading had become skewed from becoming edified into setting a personal record.
2011 earthquake here? Where is here, where are you?
Yep, we will see how catering to the left works for the NFL.
NFL marketing people may not realize yet, but these radical leftist types tend not to be sports fans or NFL fans. So the NFL is bending over backwards to impress leftist types, but they aren’t going to gain any new ticket buyers or TV audience from this group.
Can’t wait to hear the excuses next year for poor attendance. This year, we heard how there was bad weather , people late in the season were Christmas shopping, how the sunny side of the stadium in Santa Clara gets so hot that 49er attendance suffered, many teams late in the season were out of playoff contention, people were travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, etc.
How many of these excuses really hold up?
One day I simply lost all interest and I dont even care why.
The culture of death has conquered every sport unfortunately.
Boycott them all!
Thanks for doing what you did!
That’s the problem. Even doing the right thing can turn into a prideful issue unpleasing to God. Jesus saw a lot of that with the Pharisees.
Indeed, that’s the Jews’ stumbling block: pridefully relying on saving themselves, rather than humbly letting God save them.
LOL!
What's next, I missed a great ultimate Frisbee game between Antifa and BLM?
Old things are passed away and behold all things become new.
I used to be obsessed with several sports. When God showed me that those things are vanity, I realized that I was allowing myself to get worked up about something that wasn’t very important.
Didn’t watch the super bowl or any of the season games.......College football was more entertaining and non political
Well said. I've been a serious, committed Christian for over four decades, and I'm now approaching seventy. Lately, I've been (pleasantly) surprised at how increasingly unimportant worldly things seem and how much keener my interest in heaven and in spiritual things is becoming. I'm not yet so heaven-minded that I'm no earthly good, but the trendline is unmistakable.
