DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) Missing since Friday, former Dallas Cowboys running back Lincoln Coleman was found safe on Tuesday morning, according to Dallas Police.
Investigators were worried about his diminished mental capacity and his need for medical help.
Colemans agent and friend of 15 years, Christopher Randolph, said Coleman had parked his car at a church three blocks from his house.
He said Coleman could not figure out where he left his car or how to get home.
Randolph said on Tuesday at about 4 a.m., Coleman returned home but was confused about what happened.
We were worried about him freezing. Obviously him getting jumped, mugged you know? Car stolen, said Randolph. Hes a big man and he can take care of himself, but when hes in that condition, you dont know what hes thinking or youre thinking someone can take advantage of him.
He said the incident was due to a combination of dementia, bipolar disorder and all the concussions he suffered during his career as an NFL running back.
Sometimes when he has bad days, he just wonders off. He gets confused and then he gets frustrated and that kind of exacerbates itself into a problem where he just doesnt know where to go, he gets lost so to speak, said Randolph.
Coleman was awarded a settlement with the NFL due to his injuries.
The claim is filed but the payment is still pending.
Randolph said Coleman needs the funds to help pay for continuous care, supervision and medicine.
48 years old. My God.
They have GPS on phones now...
Reading these stories just makes me care less and less about football with each passing year, not to mention all the anthem stuff as well.
You can see this all the time at your local mall, Parking Lot Amnesia
That’s very sad.
Sad, but seriously, should he be driving?
I vaguely remember being 19 and on several occasions when I was attending my first college in upstate New York where the drinking age was 18, I would forget where I had parked my mother’s ‘66 GTO and just walk up the hill to my dorm and pass out. The next day it might have taken me a couple of hours to find it because even though the town was small, there 63 bars scattered about. At least I remembered to always take the keys out of the ignition before I started drinking. Not saying that this former Cowboy was out hitting the firewater, but 4 AM?
No he shouldn’t. He probably needs somebody with him when he goes somewhere so this won’t happen again.
"...48 years old. My God..."
Alcohol probably complicates the situation...................
I sometimes forget where I parked.
"...care less and less about football..."
“You can see this all the time at your local mall, Parking Lot Amnesia”
Yup. This condition affects a good number of Americans at the mall. Aside from “I forgot my parking stub and lost it somewhere” -itis.
Actually I think the best thing they can do is to go back to leather helmets, which would encourage proper tackling form.
.
Too many helmet to helmet crashes?
.
and what’s even worst they walk up to your car(with you in it) pushing the unlock button ,just because a car is black it’s not yours
.
>> “48 years old. My God.” <<
Chances are he had something else on his mind when he parked.
.
Probably. He played Arena Football as well as NFL...............
The odds are in my favor with hundreds or close to a thousand cars, ONE is done shopping in an area I want to be .... it never fails.
