... Liberals roll their eyes at the claim that President Obama violated democratic norms or abused his power. But putting aside the specific arguments, conservatives saw plenty of abuses and violations, from the IRS scandals and Benghazi to the Iran deal. Obama said many times he couldnt unilaterally implement the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program because he wasnt a king. Then he did it anyway.
And the process repeats itself, getting worse and more egregious each time. When I criticize Trump, the first response from countless Republicans is, Oh yeah, why was it okay for Obama!? If I point out it wasnt and that I said as much, they switch gears to how we need a fighter who gets things done and doesnt care about the old rules. ...
Yes, there is a cult of Trump. But thats because we have a cult of the presidency in this country. It infects not just our understanding of the office, but of the person holding it. When Obama acted like a king by his own definition liberals cheered, because their loyalty was to the man, not the office. Its getting worse with Trump, but this dynamic has been getting worse for decades. And I suspect it wont improve much when hes gone.

Into the trash bin of history you go Jonah.
STFU Goldbrick.
There is also a cult of NeverTrumpers.
Endless NeverTrump drivel...
Jonah ...please go play a round of golf with Billy Kristol. You two can share your misery.
Sit on it Goldberg...
There are cults everywhere. They just don’t belong in conservatism.
First of all, it's no cult. And second of all, look in the mirror, Jonah, as for one good reason why Trump won - overweening pinheads like yourself who have long placed style over substance.
Trump gets results. And he has not engaged in any abuses of power like Obama did. So take your cult and stuff it.
Never Trumpster RINO. National Review is part of the swamp.
Jonah, why don’t you just go somewhere and hide til it’s over, OK???
Goldberg is part of a camp that simply can’t cope that their (odd) brand of Republican conservatism (exemplified by Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, Romney, Rubio, etc.) has a busted hand and it doesn’t look like they are going to have a comeback anytime soon.
I lost all interest in anything Jonah might have to say a long time ago.
to understand the appeal of trump is to remember one thing...
He fights back....he fights back hard
Since I found no actual EXAMPLES in the excerpt, I am going to assume there are none and not give NR the click.
Once a NeverTrumper, always a NeverTrumper.
STFU goldcuck.
Jonah doesn’t fail to insults tens of millions of Trump supporters. I guess if we are a cult, Reagan also was a cult. Does it make us a cult to reject the Saudi ass kissing neoconservative wing of the Republican Party - as in Bill Kristol, Karl Rove and the Bush family?
i’m sort of glad he’s stuck on national review, a place where no one can hear you if you scream
The Bush League Republicans have been pretty successful at preventing US (US citizens) from electing anyone who would stand with US and the rule of law.
Eric Cantor getting Cantorized was like a kick in the knee, Trump getting elected was like a punch in the gut.
They are down but they are not out.
Most of the Senate are still Bush League Republicans hell bent on making the USA into North Mexico before Poppy Bush croaks.
