In the hazy beginnings of 2017, the film Get Out debuted and managed to give an entire new twist to the horror genre. The lingering effects of Jordan Peeles directorial debut, which delivered a black spin on Rosemarys Baby-esque body horror, are still felt to this day. Get Out was not only nominated for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director at the 2018 Oscars, but its lead actor Daniel Kaluuya was also nominated for Best Actor. That a genre film could defy tradition with multiple nominations horror is rarely nominated, save for prestige horror like the aforementioned Rosemarys Baby, The Exorcist, and Jonathan Demmes The Silence of the Lambshas been one the season's biggest surprises.

Cool. Another I won’t see.
So, it’s “We wuz kings!” meme made into a movie.
I can tell from the hype that this will be a massive flop.
Any PC movie will get rave reviews. The reviewers know they will be ostracized if they pan the movie, so they fawn over it as much as possible. No way to know the truth until it’s available to the general public.
From what I have seen of the movie and this guys character, he looks like a good guy and a good roll model.
Yawn, another over the top CGI fest “superhero” movie.
Think Ill pass.
Racist if you say anything against it.
Pffft. “We wuz kayngz” BS. Just like the “Blaxploitation” movies in the 70’s.
Question: Is a Dazzling, Superpowered Love Letter to Black People anything like a Dazzling Urbanite in a Rustic Setting?
Magic Negroes.
Same here. But I do recommend Rochelle, Rochelle, A young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.

Every time I see a word I don’t recognize I automatically think, ‘typo’!
I looked it up & learned a new word! Always a minor thrill for me to add to my vocabulary. t y 4 posting
I only picked up that word because I am enjoy learning up on the Victorians. The Romantic era poet/social critic Samuel Coleridge coined to term as a type of secular clergy.
Get Out was made for 4.5 million and has brought in over 167 million just in the United States. Talk about an amazing haul of money. Black Panther will make a ton of money as well. I don’t think there is a thing wrong with African American actors playing comic book characters and having a horror film made for them. That is a really stupid thing to complain about.
“I can tell from the hype that this will be a massive flop.”
Nowhere near a flop. In fact, it will be a tremendous success. it also might be the first MCU movie to garner serious Oscar attention, because it is so PC. Not only because it has a black director, and mostly black cast, but also because it has strong female characters who are getting rave reviews.
I’m not a fan of women in traditionally male roles. However, I think it’s good to have positive role models for black people, especially young black males.
I doubt I will see it at the theater. I might go out to see Avengers: Infinity War in May, but nowadays, I wait for most movies to become available on TV. I still have “Logan” to watch on my DVR, and Wonder Woman will be on HBO starting this Saturday.
Black Panther is a great character with a great backstory, co-created by The King, Jack Kirby. I’ll definitely see Black Panther, but I tend to think the Marvel comic book movies peaked at around the time of Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier. People are getting tired of it. I feel the same way.
I saw that with Art VanDalay
There. Everyone take a breath. It's not real. A comic.
Wakanda First!
Border wall, low immigration, high productivity, natural resources. Mercia!
I'm still enjoying them. :-)
An even better roll model.
