“Speaking of old school favorites, any one remember ‘porcupine balls’?”
When I was a kid, Mom used to make these. I’m sure it’s a staple in the Betty Crocker Cookbook! I had my baby sister CONVINCED that it was made from REAL Porcupines and that she had to eat them VERY carefully.
We laugh about it to this day, 50+ years later! :)
Hadn’t thought about that.
I’ve had so many cats who wanted everything ‘people food’; I can’t figure out these ones who just want dry cat food/dry treat.
Love Tuna Noodle Casserole.
Love Corned Beef Sangwiches.
Hint: Mar 18th corned beef is HALF price!
$4 meatball sangwiches with mozerrela at the VFW tonight
I made Ree’s chicken stock today. Had bought a large package of large chicken split breasts with the bone. 99 cents a pound. Sliced out the breast meat for the freezer and left some on the bones. Used everything she had suggested, first time I ever bought a parsnip! It smells wonderful, it cooked on low all day. Did not feel like dragging out the crockpot. I won’t get into freezing the broth but will make a nice pot of chicken soup tomorrow.
She’s not fat, even if her recipes are calorie-rich. Her kids are healthy and smart. Her handsome husband always looks VERY happy. And she’s 100% able to laugh at herself. Her store and restaurant are thriving...anything she touches turns to gold.
She’s got it all going on. :)
Yes. We buy a bunch for the freezer, every year.
I’ve wanted to try corning my own. My father belonged to a ‘social club’ when I was growing up - a lot of old Italian and Irish men; and they would put down their own corned beef, and then had an enormous St. Patty’s Day party every year.
That meat was like butter in your mouth.
I’m such a cheat. I DVR her shows and pull them up on my laptop. When she introduces what she is cooking I either watch or jump to that recipe or delete. Love her hassleback potatoes!
I loved that old hound dog that they had.
On my busy Tuesdays (Daddy Chores, grocery shopping and such) I buy a roasted chicken from a local grocer. I can’t NOT make stock; it’s a weird obsession with me! ;)
Take an avocado, Half it and stuff each half with tuna salad (shrimp salad is all the better) squeeze a lemon over that, pinch of salt.
Wonderful summer lunch
Where’s the meat?
potato chips? Bread crumbs?
On the bones of the soup bones. Plenty. :-)
Gotta fry beef bones with meat at the beginning.
I know. Where’s the beef!? It’s what’s for dinner ....
Her Basset Hound? Charlie? He passed away, but now they have a new Basset Pup named, ‘Henry.’
I had a tricolor field grade Basset for 15 years; Rufus. I now have two red & white Lady Bassets, Pearl and Belle. Pearl is Bench Grade (show dog material, soft coat) and Belle is Field Grade (rougher coat, good hunter.) The Ladies are house dogs, along with our lazy Beagle, Chief.
Love the Bassets. We currently have a mix of a dozen Treeing Walker Coon Hounds and Plot Hounds. Outside dogs; Beau hunts them for raccoon, bear and coyote.
Dogs-R-Us! :)
I used to make it all the time when I bought whole chickens but with just the 2 of us I don’t do that much. When we are grilling I will get one and break it down for the grill legs and wings one day, thighs another and the breasts well these days we split one. So that’s 4 meals plus the stock. I’m a polack what can I say.
Ah; now we’ve got it!
My husband does the same thing with ham bones - sometimes with ham hocks - for his bean soup.
“large chicken split breasts with the bone. 99 cents a pound.”
Meijer? The week before Super Sunday is a good time to stock up the freezer. I’m making goulash and chili (for the freezer) tonight. Got ground chuck at Kroger for 2.49/lb. First time I’ve gotten meat other than bacon or ham from the supermarket in a long time.
Does he use gps collars for the dogs? We had come coyote hunters we let go on our property and they had trackers on all their dogs.
yep!
