‘What are your recommendations?’
Stay away from Television.
Nothing on the airwaves the FR does not have covered.
Antennae. We live on a hill and the amount of channels we get is crazy. We also just got a smart TV that links to streaming services too. But so far just free stuff or the occasional movie buy.
If you must, Sling Blue, for $25/mo. No ESPN or Disney there. Do NOT support Disney. Those channels are in Sling Orage for $20/mo.
Roku. There are also bootleg sites....but I won’t link them.
Kill your TV!!!!! I did it years ago. Not. ;-)
I am marking this thread. I am interested in the answers.
I got ride of the TV years ago. Actually, we still have the TV but I use it to stream Youtube programming.
If I ever turn on regular old school TV, it is over the air signal. No for-pay service.
Is there a device that can put them all together?
Mrs FD and I both love H&I, which is a broadcast station. She loves Hallmark and we both like MeTV and variants.
I went through all the offerings, including Hulu, NFLX and the rest and haven’t found the channels we normally watch (and we are REALLY upset Chill just died on its own).
We watch eclectically which is probably why we can’t find replacements.

We have Hulu and sling.
We also have an antenna.
Hulu for binge watching shows and sling mostly for cooking shows and live sports.
..we have a Roku and watch all the free stuff. And on Pluto TV there IS a Gorilla Channel !
Directv Now
In the process of trying them all. They all have a free trial period. DirectTV Now was not great lots of buffering on live tv at random times. Now trying HULU liveTV, not looking good either, buffering and a weird repeat of the last few seconds. Ill try PS Vue next.
We stream Acorn too. British cop shows.
Youtube, Hulu and Netflix.
After several years, I’m now tired of netflix. We’re considering dropping it and picking it up again later this year (They will be DESPERATE for viewers soon, so look for good deals coming up in a few months).
Hulu covers my network TV that I enjoy, and Netflix covers “some interesting stuff” and Youtube covers my news feeds.
Got rid of cable, don’t even watch the local stations. My viewing is done on Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, Netflix and oodles of DVDs and BluRay discs.
I get my news and commentary primarily on Facebook.
Roku and DirectTV Now. That will get you pretty much everything you could possibly want for a fair price. The Roku is just the cost of the device. The DTV Now price varies based on what package you get, but it’s much cheaper than satellite or cable. I know there are a lot of ditch your TV types on here, but some of us don’t live on FR and actually enjoy sports and the occasional TV show. I would do exactly this and drop DTV, but I use the DVR too much and as of the last I heard that wasn’t yet available on Now. Plus I have to keep things simple for the wife who is not tech savvy, and using the Roku/DTVN setup is a little more involved than satellite.
I have Acorn and Britbox for British shows, Amazon Prime, YouTube and more using Roku for TV and iPad mini for other viewing. I paused my Dish network about a year and a half ago (no charge) and will get rid of it in the next few months. The equipment has been stored in the closet for months and I dont miss it.
I am about to cancel Sling TV and pick up DirecTV Now. I had Netflix and Hulu, but got fed up with the content. It seems that most of the shows are liberal...and I’m not going to sponsor or support them anymore, especially Netflix. DirecTV Now is a little more expensive than Sling TV, but the basic offering has Fox News. And THAT’S the main reason I’m making the move...
I use Amazon fireTV boxes with Netflix and Amazon prime.
Also have a PC connected through AV receiver for Torrents and physical DVDs.
We are using Playstation Vue. I like it.
