In an unusual emergency call, a mom of four young children dialed 911 last week, saying she had run out of options.
"I went to local churches and everything, trying to find food for my children," she told the dispatcher. "My kids have not eaten since yesterday."
"This is for police only," the dispatcher said. "It's not for this."
The distraught mom from Camden, New Jersey, said she was waiting for food stamps, which would take at least a month. She had no money, transportation or phone service, and the only number she was able to call was 911.
"If I could get some type of assistance," she pleaded. "If someone [could] come out. Help me with anything."
According to NBC, another dispatcher, Tondaleya Bagby, overheard the call and requested an officer go to the mom's residence to check on the family. "It made me sad. I couldn't imagine not being able to provide for my child," Bagby, also a mom, told NBC. When Camden County Officer David Hinton arrived at the apartment, he noticed there was no food, so he went to a local restaurant to bring food back to the family.

Because they are already in Ja... Never mind ;-)
Whatever brought her to the situation where her kids had no food.....the police did the right thing for the kids. You can bet authorities will be notified and step up as well......but I just think there’s a lot more to this story.
I meant CPS, Child Protective Services, or whatever it's called in that state.
"Oh, and dog food..."
Our rural community churches rotates meals throughout the week. My church gives two hot meals per week.
And yup a percentage of the homeless rotate trashing the churches.
When I used to work somewhere that would adopt a family for Christmas, this is always what they found. Not to mention, amazingly, ingratitude. I quit contributing to any individual family after that. The Salvation Army, fine - let them sort it out.
I do feel sorry for this woman and her kids. I’m sure she has made wrong decisions in her life that are at least in part responsible for her having no food and being this desperate. This is why its so important to have a good church to support you. They would be able to help her and to try to get her back on the right track.
Yup. Sad state of affairs.
Amen.
This is why America needs to return to orphanages.
Which is worse? No parents or unfit parents?
Private Christian agencies did a good job back then. We need to return to that model.
My cousin worked for CPS in NYC. Her caseload was insane and she was supposed to do a home visit on all of her cases once a month. She would have been at work, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week in order to make that happen. Of course, when one of her charges shows up abused in the ER, she gets jumped on by the politicians and her bosses. She quit and went into nursing.
IF there’s a known dad, 50% chance he is
I’m a Christian male, and nobody has me more fired up than Christian men. We are the single biggest reason why our countries are the way they are. We’ve done nothing by and large. Yes I’m painting with a big brush because we need a revival of a large magnitude and only that will bring back our societies.
There are actually very few real churches left, most have caved to the politically correct ways.
Does your church not do enough?
Your story is very moving and I have to ask, How well are you and your brothers doing now?
Perhaps you should write a memoir for your children and grandchildren.
It’s hard work, but very cleansing.
My parish started a food pantry years ago. It has grown so much over the years that it serves the entire city and surrounding communities.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
I work at a church and we don’t give money but we certainly keep food on hand for the hungry.
For anything else we send them to an umbrella organization that all the churches support.
We do Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets but we have to cross check lists with other churches because so many ask 3 and 4 organizations for food.
You lose a little compassion when you work at a church.
Our former priest kept grocery store gift cards in his office for this situation. It was amazing the number of “hungry” people who refused help when he offered to take them to Kroger’s and pay for groceries. They wanted cash, but he was not subsidizing drugs or alcohol.
A big thank you to the officer, but i hope CPS does a follow up visit to this woman to assess her needs and make sure the children have food.
