In an unusual emergency call, a mom of four young children dialed 911 last week, saying she had run out of options.
"I went to local churches and everything, trying to find food for my children," she told the dispatcher. "My kids have not eaten since yesterday."
"This is for police only," the dispatcher said. "It's not for this."
The distraught mom from Camden, New Jersey, said she was waiting for food stamps, which would take at least a month. She had no money, transportation or phone service, and the only number she was able to call was 911.
"If I could get some type of assistance," she pleaded. "If someone [could] come out. Help me with anything."
According to NBC, another dispatcher, Tondaleya Bagby, overheard the call and requested an officer go to the mom's residence to check on the family. "It made me sad. I couldn't imagine not being able to provide for my child," Bagby, also a mom, told NBC. When Camden County Officer David Hinton arrived at the apartment, he noticed there was no food, so he went to a local restaurant to bring food back to the family.

Praise the police officers for their compassion.
So the real police officers are shown, but a stock photo of a white baby crying. Riiight.
What Fathers? 70% of Black kids are born out of wedlock. If there is a known Dad, he’s probably incarcerated.
You have to make a whole lot of bad choices to get to where this woman is.
No husband?
No job?
Four kids?
No friends?
No food pantry?
A church wouldn’t help her? Really?
No one to call except 911? But she has a smart phone, I’m guessing?
Seriously, anyone with compassion for those 4 kids should take those 4 kids away and give them to someone who won’t mess up their lives. This lady can’t handle that job.
Excellent compassion by the officers.
The part that makes me angry is that it mentioned she went to some churches. That’s what they are for. Jesus himself reached out to the downtrodden, tax collectors, prostitutes, and this woman couldn’t get any help? What the hell is wrong with these so called “churches”? Perfect chance to witness to someone, and they turn it down.
When I was cop, I used to bring food to people living in shelters. Its amazing what type of a world we live in. The so called Social Workers could care less. I knew a few other who used to do the same thing.
“And pick up a pack of smokes too. I only smoke Marlboros”.
They probably gave her money....which didn’t go for food”
in a Kendrick Lamar music video..
This is not possible. New Jersey and Camden in particular are run almost completely by Liberals. Surely such compassionate people would not let this happen.
This kind of story illuminates who the heartless racists really are — those who manipulate the poor for power and to line their pockets.
May God find a way to catch this falling sparrow, and set things on a better path — In Jesus’ name I pray for this.
...and may the gathering storm touch the hearts of many in these days — while some time remains yet.
My thoughts exactly. Way to “white wash” the story.
When the feds launch phony programs like “The War on Poverty” and “The Great Society” (LBJ’s sad legacy), they are actually designing programs to increase the feds own power and wealth at the people’s expense. This is the result - MORE poverty.
Can I tell you how many times that we’ve responded to calls like this and similiar to this, and they have 3 or 4 TVs, multiple video game systems, kids are wearing 100.00 sneakers, Mom has her hair and nails done and a nice car in the driveway. It’s all about priorities.
Most of us have seen articles here about CPS overreach, but this might be a case where the kids need to be in a better place for a couple of months. Is there running water in the house? Heat? If there’s no money for food, there’s probably no money to pay those bills next time either.
Next a visit from Child Services, which could be a good thing.
I’d ask for Chesterfield or Fatimas but they aren’t around anymore if I smoked.
It said she didn’t receive any help. I’m frustrated by churches in general these days, but just from my observations, Christians don’t do near enough.
My parish is on of the most passionate and generous in the city. The bad part? Those ingrate homeless trash the church entrance where they sleep. They show no respect for the same place which feeds them.
Gosh, even the Good Lord fashioned a whip and kicked the sh*t out of the merchants when they turned the church into an impromptu market..
