The only way I will watch the game is if the halftime show is a (real) dragon flaming Goodell into a crispy critter. :-)
And then there's always...
Bonus prediction: Next year Tom Brady comes back and finally looks old. Pats fail to make Super Bowl. Brady faces reality and retires, is given his gold hall of fame jacket on the field as he walks off the field, no votes required. Patriots team realizes that the QB cupboard is bare because they decided to stroke Brady's ego and trade all their backups. Pats don't see the playoffs for years. And the Eagles 50 year dynasty commences!
Your post makes me think of two things...
One - if the Pats have not groomed Brady’s backup QB why not? The “Team of the 80’s”, the Niners, did that when Coach Walsh got Steve Young as Montana’s backup. Turns out they had the two best QB’s in the NFL at the time.
Two - the background of Belichick was defense, not offense, and yet the Pats have always excelled in offense, not defense. This year, their defense is vulnerable which is why I think the Eagles will win. If the Pats fixed their defense, it’s conceivable Brady could be a contender next year, but with a top-notch backup QB, the Pats even without Brady could be a contender.
Exodus 19:3 And Moses went up unto God, and YHVH called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles wings, and brought you unto myself.
I'm going with the Eagles!
Luke 17:36-37 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
Better call the waiter!
Good one. Now the Eagles will win for sure!
Uh-oh. Well, America isn’t finished yet, but the eagles are certainly getting ready to soar.
Niners let Montana go to Kansas City in the end so Young could rise. Packers let Favre go so Rodgers could come into his own. Both were still good but teams chose long term success over the emotion of "we can't let our hall of fame QB walk away". Patriots went the other way. Apparantly rumor has it that Brady was antagonistic about Garoppolo and Kraft directed Belichick to trade him to keep Brady happy, which upset Belichick. But he did it. So they keep their old guy, who eventually will look old, it's inevitable and when it happens it will be FAST and UGLY. And they have no backup. Bummer for them.
I can’t believe the Pats did that. That’s the only story about Brady that kind of dings him for me a bit, but I still like him.
The Niners organization being only a shell of its former self, maybe the Pats may still have a chance of attracting Garoppolo back, especially if the Pats lose the Super Bowl.
“Eagles offense does just enough to win. Eagles Win”
What he said.
Eagles!
No the Niners let Montana go because he was starting to slip and they had a successor lined up. The Packers let Favre go because they’d drafted Rodgers but he only had 1 year left on his rookie contract and they needed to know if they had their QB of the future or not and Favre was screwing them over with the “will I/ won’t I”, the team chose to no longer be held hostage. The Pats let Garappolo go because they don’t feel they need to replace Brady yet, and they were going to lose him anyway (contract ended this season, no way he was going to sign for low money to stay a backup). By the time Brady falls off they’ll have a backup, remember he WASN’T supposed to be the guy to run Bledsoe out of town, just a 6th round draft pick nobody expected anything from. The Pats know talent.
If you think the Pats knew what Tom Brady was going to turn out to be and they craftily waited until they could get him at super great value in the sixth round then we'll disagree. They got lucky. Sometimes that happens. Their odds of getting a great QB in the sixth round again is essentially zero. Half the teams in the league have spent decades trying to find a true franchise QB. Only a handful of teams really have one. The odds say that when Brady retires his replacement will be a gigantic falloff, immense drop. Who could argue that? They could draft the next Rodgers or Russel Wilson or the like but odds are more likely that they struggle to get a guy who better than average. Garropolo might have been that guy, they might have hit gold there (jury is still out but early returns look good). But the rumor is that Belichick wanted to promise Garropolo he'd start next year, Kraft said "no way, trade him".
I make no bones about it, I'm sick of the Patiots. I look forward to watching the Bills, Dophins, and Jets getting revenge for 20 years of beatings. I hope it happens soon. I'm not objective. But I do think the Pats have a real QB crisis coming soon. Just my opinion.
Patriots 31
Philly 20
I didn’t say that. But they know value when they see it. Smart teams get starters in all rounds.
Kraft was right. You can’t promise Garrapolo the starting job. For one thing at that point his body of work was too small to make guarantees and then there’s Brady.
I can’t get sick of greatness. The last time we’ve seen a team with this kind of run it was in the 6 team NHL. As for their division mates, don’t hold your breath. They’re all grossly mismanaged teams that won’t be good anytime soon. The Pats could sink to 0-16 and their division mates will still struggle to break 500 and whichever teams gets in the playoffs because somebody has to will lose in the first round. They aren’t held back by the Pats, they’re held back by bad owners who make crappy GM and coach decisions.
Me neither. I like Brady and the Pats championship organization, but I think the Eagles edge out the Pats in this one.
Part of the fun of the Pats reign is that their SBs in this run are all great games. Who gets tired of last possession single score games? Certainly not anybody that remember the Super Blowout era. And because of that I can see either team winning. I favor the Pats just because they have such an established history of getting 3 more points than the other guy, but I won’t be surprised if they don’t.
Eagles take the Pats.
So now, you just have to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?"
