New York's Guggenheim museum has turned down a request from President Donald Trump to borrow Van Gogh's work for the White House - instead offering him a gold toilet, media reports say.
But the Guggenheim suggested a "solid, 18-karat toilet" could be offered as an alternative.
The White House has made no comment.

Pauline Kael’s exact quote, from a speech to the Modern Language Association, was: “I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don’t know. They’re outside my ken. But sometimes when I’m in a theater I can feel them”. I would imagine that Miss Kael spent many of her afternoons at the Guggenheim, appreciating bizarre artwork that would be perceived as worthless trash to those of us Nixon voters. For some odd reason, I consider myself lucky that I never had to see Miss Kael’s ugly puss in person just as she probably considered herself lucky never to have met me.
Ah, the MLA. The members - who are virtually all academics - live in such a special world that everybody is outside of their ken, to the point that the titles of their papers are an ongoing joke among the sane, But the left eats its own...even Pauline Kael got into trouble over a movie review that somebody decided was homophobic. However, she redeemed herself with other even more raving opinions.
Ive never understood how these people can just stand around and blow off most of their fellow US citizens and even fellow New Yorkers and not even feel the slightest twinge of elitism. But again, theyre in their own little world, and they think its the only one that counts.
LOL
SPITEFUL. Guggenheim sucks. I will bad mouth them for as long as I live.
Would any one EXCEPT a twelve year kid buy what the Guggenheim has hanging on their walls as “art” ?
Is it normal for a President to request to borrow artwork from a museum?
If not, I don’t think Trump should have asked. It seems a little presumptuous to me. (You can check my posts, I’m a big Trump fan. But I won’t blindly defend any and all actions.)
OTOH, knowing how the media operates, perhaps this was a setup and the museum offered to let him borrow something so that they could do this to try to make him look bad.
?
$1,267,200 actually.
Its fake.
Excellent- he should melt it down and put the proceeds towards the wall. :)
Trump should take it- glue a pic of Hillary in it, take several dumps in it and send it back.
The current New York Guggenheim museum is a toilet.
It’s sad how disrespectful supposed professionals can be — and so many of them are out there. We have not been noticing the extent to which our society has been degenerating and have not been taking enough action to save it. Thank goodness that Trump stepped up to the plate. Now we need to back him.
Thanks Robert A Cook PE.
