National Transportation Safety Board investigators are looking into the crash of a Tesla into a fire engine on the 405 Freeway after local firefighters said the Tesla driver told them the car was on Autopilot at the time of the collision.
The luxury car slammed into the back of the fire engine while traveling at a speed of 65 mph on Monday, Culver City firefighters tweeted. No injuries were reported, but a day later, the collision had managed to draw the attention of federal investigators.
In an Instagram post, the Culver City firefighters union said the Tesla plowed into the rear of Engine 42 while crews were responding to a downed motorcycle on the 405 Freeway.

Back to the drawing board.
KEEP BACK 500 FEET
Guess autopilot cannot read.
Was Autopilot drunk or high ?
That's what should happen.
Unfortunately what will probably happen is they will call it a "glitch" and field these autonomous monstrosities. They have too much money tied up in the current iteration (which they consider fully cooked).
Not until someone is killed will there be pressure to go back to the drawing board.
Blame the cyclist. We're easy targets...
So if the car is on autopilot and crashes, does the “driver” still get a ticket or charges? Can you see the upcoming court cases over this crap?
“auto pilot” or “cruise control”. Slight difference between the two.
Tesla now has driver-less cars? Or was this a prototype like the Google cars? What on earth was it doing on the 405? Sounds like a suicide mission. Also article doesn’t mention if the person in the Tesla was injured. Hard to imagine a 65mph impact to the rear of a fire engine and you’d walk out alive.
It’s a good thing a mom and her two kids didn’t come between Elon Musk’s beta test and the fire engine. Next time it might.
Bombs with wheels, supplied by Capitalism, and enabled by a globalist government.
When it happens, it will be used as an excuse to tighten restrictions on cars with human drivers.
Isn’t this just people using the technology in a way it wasn’t designed for. You know, like the old joke from a few decades about the arab that put his motorhome on cruise control and then went to the back to play poker with his buddies.

Have seen 2 episodes of Bull. One dealt with this.
In the case of that particular Tesla, which still has a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, brake pedal, etc., I can see the driver being charged (in fact, I think this particular driver was charged with DUI).
However, if the ridiculous monstrosity GM wants to unleash on us comes to fruition then I don’t see how the driver (or more accurately, “primary passenger”) could be charged in the event of an accident.

Next come the driverless semis.

Robotic big rigs are reportedly coming soon. Beware those.
Noooo!
Yes, they do.
A select group of beta testers have Tesla software installed in their vehicles which enables them to drive without human intervention.
The software controls navigation and travel to a specified endpoint. It keeps the vehicle in the correct lane and will slow or brake to avoid collisions with other vehicles.
There appears to be a few glitches in that software.
What is this? Why in hell do we need “driverless” cars? If you need to get from “here to there” and don’t have a car, get a taxi. I don’t understand the “infatuation” with this. It is a stupid idea, almost an oxymoron.

Like dangerous interceptions, one fatality is just an anomaly and noting is done. Not until there is a repeated pattern of many fatalities will a traffic light be installed’
Self-driving cars are no different. It will take many fatalities; perhaps each state will make a different decision on just what constitutes ‘many’ before they do anything at all.
