Tesla now has driver-less cars? Or was this a prototype like the Google cars? What on earth was it doing on the 405? Sounds like a suicide mission. Also article doesn’t mention if the person in the Tesla was injured. Hard to imagine a 65mph impact to the rear of a fire engine and you’d walk out alive.

Yes, they do.

A select group of beta testers have Tesla software installed in their vehicles which enables them to drive without human intervention.

The software controls navigation and travel to a specified endpoint. It keeps the vehicle in the correct lane and will slow or brake to avoid collisions with other vehicles.

There appears to be a few glitches in that software.
