I dont have information that he was actually wanted for anything at this time, all I have at this point is that he was a suspicious person on a bike, Johnson said.
After the two-person police unit attempted to stop them, the person allegedly fled on foot.
The foot chase led officers into an alley between Adriatic and Baltic avenues.
Once one of the officers caught up with the person, that officer fired and shot the person, Johnson said.
The person was struck once in the lower torso and transported to the hospital in stable condition.
It was unknown if the person was armed, according to Johnson, and he was not sure if the person was previously wanted by or known to police.
No officers were injured in the incident.

But he was unarmed. This is no different than Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown.
He was murdered in cold blood, mannnnnn!
Kitty’s right to be suspicious!
“The officer didnt just shoot him for the fun of it.”
You don’t know that.
:-)
Thanks.
I realize this mythology is part of the police union talking points but data simply doesnt support this argument. Its plain false.
BTW - back in the late 1960s & early 1970s, the people, including gangbangers, were more heavily armed than today.
Im always suspicious when I see a man in a helmet swishing by on a girls bike.
I usually stop and show my ID to officers so I don’t get shot...not sure why this person wanted to be shot.
As a famous doctor & time lord once said: "Don't blink!"
Well, that is the poor side of town. It would've been different if he was on Park Place.
Nothing will slow them down. There are no criminals in neighborly SoCal. It’s all still Leave It To Beaver, Beach Boys California.
Just ignore the bars on windows, drug haven homeless camps, graffiti, bail bonds in every strip mall cancer that is now the reality of so much of SoCal.
And his giant nose makes him Osama Bin Laden.
servitude suits you - it does not suit most Patriots
The family of a 35-year-old man who was shot to death by Long Beach police after they mistook a water hose nozzle he was holding for a handgun was awarded $6.5 million in damages by a federal jury Thursday.
‘their’ should be ‘they’re’.
This incident happened in a lily white part of town. The victim was sitting on a stoop watering plants.
The victim was a middle aged white guy.
The Shooters are still on the job.
“the person allegedly fled on foot”
Shouldn’t the headline read suspicious person not on bike?
