Dont bother telling Joe Rockenbach your curling jokes. Hes heard them all.
As president of his local curling club, Rockenbach has listened to people tell him that curling is not a real sport. Or about how curlers must be skilled house cleaners because their sport involves sweeping.
Those comments used to irk Rockenbach, a 37-year-old Philadelphia native, but hes seen the game humble enough people that now the slights slide right off.
Almost anybody who comes into it with the attitude of, This is nothing, I got this, when they get off the ice, [they say], this was way different than what I expected, Rockenbach said, and theyll gain a lot more respect for the game.

Rock hard stupid ...
Lots of non-mass sports are that way.
Try getting on a fixed gear bicycle and doing laps at a velodrome.
People that don’t do a sport often have no real clue about the difficulty involved.

Three curling clubs here in Eastern MA.

I dont understand curling, but I bet the players have floors you could eat off of.
Not guilty.

That said, curling is very fun and I was really bad at it. In high school we had a curling unit every year in phy ed and thats the extent of my experience. But I loved hanging out at the curling rink after basketball practice when my mom curled.
My home town welcomes you with a big sign The curling capital of southern Minnesota.
I don’t mind curling. I just always imagined it as something invented by a bunch of guys on an ice-covered field behind a tavern.
I agree with your definition of what makes a sport.
I got no problem with curling. Just don't call it a sport. Ex cross country and middle distance track guy.
The old “Is Bowling a Sport” argument...
But with cooler pants and hotter chicks...
Haha
I find it to be the most fascinating winter sport to watch - not just for the beautiful intense women but for the interesting strategies involved.
Total respect for curling after living a decade in a country where it was played. Schwingen, not as much. To me the sport of schwingen still looks like aggressive homosexual latency.
No intention to go outside anywhere there is ice around.
When I was a kid, my Mom wore curlers.
