I received a text from my Son In Law who is deployed in Africa. He sent me a text photo of the TV in the O-Club. All it showed was the logo of AFN...and a statement that said due to the government shut down, AFN will remain off air until the issue is resolved.
Now, I know TV is not "essential." But I sure as hell would not want a few thousand troops to miss the Conference Finals later.
Talk about a morale suck.
But they haven’t shut off the cell phone access yet? That’s good. Useless dementocrat compromise in daca-——Either our way or we vote no. Now that’s compromise for ya. Bet chucky will still be getting his pay check.
all for the sake of the”rights” of ILLEGAL Immigrants
Television, on deployments?
I don’t think the actual problem is being identified here.
It is out here in Afghanistan. The message they re running on the screen says “Due to the government shutdown, AFN services are not available”.
There are a lot of unhappy campers here because it looks like the troops will not be able to see the NFL Conference championships tomorrow.
If you’re on Twitter, have you tweeted this to Trump?
That is one of many consequences of our government trying to give America to the Third World.
There will be many more consequences, and they will be worse.
How much does it cost to run AFN per day? Maybe we could crowd source some stop-gap funding?
Live stream on computer?
I know what you mean.
But my SIL is gone for about two weeks at a whack...into the desert or the bush, depending. Coming back for three or four days and getting TV is nice.
One of my older friends knew my SIL from before he met my daughter. He had been through Vietnam all the way to Gulf War 1. He keeps asking how “Captain America’s Vacation is going.”
Don't worry about your SIL -- two things American servicemen know how to do: 1. embrace the suck and make the worst out of bad situations, and 2. make their own entertainment.
Really, it’s the law that all members of the House and Senate will not have their paychecks affected in any way by their votes! For obvious reasons, they thought that was a good idea and it probably passed unanimously.
Has the television been cut off in ICE detention facilities?
Not for most troopies, plus that kills the whole watch party at the mess hall or USO thing.
When I was in the Navy we had wooden ships and iron men. Hehehe
I ran a big intel computer network hub at the Pentagon in the early 1980s.
I typed in a lot of play-by-play to the remote corners of the world every Sunday and especially during the bowls and playoffs.
When I was in Australia even earlier, we didn’t have Internet yet, but compadres in other locations always transmitted scores back to us. We’d print them on the teletype and post them on the ops center wall.
That is a very, very good question. That is something that needs to be sent to a friendly reporter that does stories on the border issues. I bet they could find out the answer to that question!
How could anybody designate our troops as a “non-essential” part of our government?
