TSA Officer Finds Cat Packed In Luggage
CBS New York ^

Posted on 01/13/2018 8:53:01 PM PST by nickcarraway

There’s a right way to travel with your cat and a wrong way.

The TSA said one of its officers found a cat packed inside checked luggage at Pennsylvania’s Erie International Airport.

The feline, named Slim, was curled up in a pile of clothes inside the bag.

“While this could have been extremely dangerous for the 6-month old cat, Slim is just fine and is currently residing under the care of the Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania,” the TSA wrote on Instagram.

concur with the accident but don’t agree with your travel assessments completely.

We moved when I was about 8. Had a tabby male. Had him when we got to the new place for about 2 days. He disappeared. Got a call from our relatives who lived next door at the old place. He showed up 2 days after he was missing. About 60 miles away over a decent sized river. Did this 3 times before he finally stayed put. Never did think he was happy about it though. Always seemed much grumpier then before after that.

I’m convinced that cats and dogs can navigate to places they’ve been. Agree with you on new places they’ve showed up unexpected.

I love calico cats.
They’re usually girls and so sweet.

Every calico cat that I've ever known fits that description--especially my little calico kitty who passed away last year on Election Day at the age of 18.

I’m so confused

Have seen solid grey cats give birth to tabby’s and grey cats in the same litter.

A cat will try to get into any ‘container’. It’s hilarious to watch them turning and squeezing and turning, to try and fit into one that’s far too small.

Did the owner do this? I’ve shut my cat in cabinets and even the refrigerator one time for a couple of minute when the sneak into things.

She’s still here..fat and happy 9 yrs old, but she’s dumb.

I’m not up on the genetics; but could it sometimes be superfecundation. We have two brothers from the same litter, and we’re convinced they had different fathers.

As far as I can tell, the article doesn’t really indicate how it happened.

Seeing that TSA agent’s hands pawing through an open piece of luggage because muzzies regularly engage in slaughter just annoys the hell out of me. I’m sorry the cute little kitty is in there, but I just hate that American citizens have to put up with this oppressive BS from our overlords.

That saying about ‘curiosity killing the cat’ doesn’t seem to be true - they can get into the most dangerous stuff, but usually come out unscathed.

Have seen solid grey cats give birth to tabby’s and grey cats in the same litter.

Female cats in heat can mate with multiple toms, resulting in a litter with LOTS of colors, as the resulting kittens have different sires. Thus, you can see tabbies (I assume you mean red tabbys) and grey cats in the same litter. A female cat which is grey also carries a gene for dilute, since grey is a dilute form of black. If she mates with a red tom, the female kittens could inherit the red tom's color on their X chromosome. If the kittens are males, they would likely be grey. Tabby, BTW, is a type of marking, not a color. You can have tabby brown, red, grey, even lynx point (tabby) Siamese cats. And tabby markings are controlled by genes, too, of course. You have classic tabby, the ones that have the concentric whorls on their sides. You have mackerel tabby, which have narrow parallel vertical stripes. And there is spotted tabby, and a ticked tabby, which is a marking seen in Abyssinian cats. The ticked tabby's individual hairs are what is striped, there aren't any big visual stripes going across parts of the body.

A bit OT but somewhat related to this topic: How do people transport indoor-only house cats to a location 1,500+ miles away during a move? Wife and I are facing this prospect in the next year. These cats freak out just going to the vet 10 minutes away. A couple are 10-11 years old; the other two are 6 years old.

That is inhumane. Don’t you know you should only pack your kids inside of your luggage to save airfare.

It does seem odd that anyone trying to ‘smuggle’ kitty would expect to get through TSA.

TSA has cat scanners.

"I love calico cats. They’re usually girls and so sweet."

That, and slightly deranged.
All of my calicos have been extra eccentric - sweet and nuts.
