Man 'smearing feces' redirects flight to Anchorage

There were sure to be some unhappy travelers Thursday night when a United Airlines flight had to be diverted to Anchorage due to the actions of a passenger on board.

United Airlines flight 895 from Chicago to Hong Kong had to be redirected to Anchorage Thursday due to a "passenger smearing feces everywhere", according to Ted Stevens International Airport Police.

Airport Police say the adult male smeared the excrement within a couple of bathrooms, took off his shirt and attempted to stuff it in the toilet. He was cooperative with the flight crew and was seated when the flight landed in Anchorage.

According to FlightAware.com, the plane arrived at ANC around 6:20.

The passenger was met by FBI agents and Airport Police at the plane and was interviewed by both entities. Airport Police say the subject was taken to Providence Hospital for a psych evaluation. No charges were filed.

The FBI says they're investigating the incident in conjunction with Airport Police.

Airport Operations says the Boeing 777 is grounded overnight for maintenance.

United Airlines has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Many don’t even bother to bathe.

"Anchorage Thattaway" said the smeared poo markings in the bathroom, so away they went.

I thought it was legal in many places now to publicly defecate!

Discrimination!

No. But loose clothes AND get a full day and night off and rest up before the business meeting in business clothes the next morning. I’ve never had to do many of the short continental flights though. I always want a full rest after any door to door time of more than 20 hours.

” I always want a full rest after any door to door time of more than 20 hours.”

The South American trip never afforded me the time to unwind before my meetings. We would leave Newark around 11:00pm, get into Buenos Aires around 7:00am and brought right to the office. Flight attendants hated me because I don’t sleep on a plane. So I am up and down all night. Good thing was it was all first class service.

You know you fly too much when you get on the plane and the flight attendants say, “crap, not you again!”

When I think of all the trips around the world I made in my working life while stuffed in an aluminum tube with people from God knows where, who have done and been who knows where, carrying who knows what manner of disease and in who knows what state of mind... I am amazed I’ve lived this long.

If someone gave me an around the world all expenses paid trip I’d give it back. If I never get on another airplane it will be too soon. Gone are the days when I could go to the back and sleep laying across a full row of seats on a 747 or exercise by going up and down the stairs on flights to Australia and having looong visits with the cabin crew. Back in the day we would sit in the lounge seating on the old 737s drinking free beer with the SWA stewardesses in their hot pants. Those were good times and we were young.

You know you fly too much when you have a platinum mileage card and they know you by face and name when you get on the airplane. It sure made an unpleasant thing to do more pleasant. At one time I was platinum on UA, AA, Lufthansa, KLM and Sing Air I think. There was no Emirates back then or I surely would have been platinum on that one.

Flights to Rio were some of the best for being able to get sleep and arrive at a decent time of day to get some work done.

It is a wonder I did not get clots in my legs all those years sitting on airplanes.

Was much better than landing in Sao Paulo. Sao Pualo had to be the worst traffic I have ever seen.

People used to dress up in their Sunday best to fly. Now it’s PJ’s and fuzzy house slippers...............

Used to be, people weren't packed in like sardines.

Yes. I moved to the Northwest shortly after 9-ll.

At that time I had to fly to and out of Seattle on a number of occasions...you remind me that I had a flight to Minneapolis on a big bird, maybe eight of us on the flight, and I slept the whole way in the folded up seats in back.

That was the U.S.A.

Following that I had a few flights with Alaska Airlines, every one of which (in tiny little balloon-shaped prop-jets), was a delight.

On Christmas the attendant SANG the flight instructions to the tune of Jingle Bells, and at another stop to the tune of We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

On every flight you were given the choice of a tall glass of microbrew, a soft drink or coffee.

Oh well. No more. I don’t mind flying but the tension, hostility and wretchedness of the packed-in passengers is no longer bearable.

I miss PSA Airlines. They were great. They were the ones with a smile painted on the planes.

Know what other airline did not suck? Air Cal. Their logo was an orange slice, IIRC.

Only had to go to Sao Paulo twice and never wanted to go back.

Ever been on a flight where CDC detected someone had TB? I have. It was a flight from Angola. The speed and efficiency with which CDC detected the carrier, learned where we were sitting in relationship to him, called us and tested us was truly amazing. Somehow our gubment works in that condition. I knew of one other case many years prior and the very same speedy efficient process took place.

Nobody on the flight actually contracted active TB but some were identified as carriers and now must be tested for the rest of their lives I understand. Thankfully I was not one of them. One of my co-workers was though.

As many places as I have been and as many times I have flown I have a relative who has done even more. He has a stick pin map in his home office that looks like a pin cushion. Anywhere people grow chickens and that is all over the world except Antartica.
