Theresa Rowley has been a resident at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community in Grand Rapids for the past 15 years.
She moved in when she was 89 years old.
On Jan.1, 2018, she turned 104.
"I'm surprised that I'm 104," said Rowley. It just doesn't seem like I should be that old."
When asked when she and her family moved to Grand Rapids, Rowley couldn't remember the exact year, only saying that she was born in Illinois in 1914, then moved to North Dakota before eventually coming to Michigan.
"When I was 100, I thought I'd never be 104; I thought I'd pass away by that time but it just didn't happen," said Rowley. "Then I turn 101, and nothing happens.
"Here I am 104, and still nothing happens."
Maybe the reason why nothing has happened is because of her daily intake of her favorite beverage -- Diet Coke.
"I drink it because I like it," said Rowley. "I'm going shopping Wednesday, and I need more Diet Coke. I have a bag full of empty Diet Coke cans that I need to return to buy more Diet Coke."
Rowley says she drinks at least one can of Diet Coke each day.
On Tuesday morning, Rowley celebrated her 104th birthday in style, with a cake, and with the support of many of the members of her retirement community.
The lady just has an unusually strong constitution. That danged Diet Coke will kill ya....
Peg O' My Heart--Charles Harrison (1913)
“What’s the impact of drinking a dozen Diet Cokes a day?”
Answer: You pee a lot. Don’t ask me how I know. But you will memorize the location of the toilets within a 5 mile radius.
Reminds me of the guy who was 96 years old and had smoked two packs of Camels a day since he was 12. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company caught wind of it and invited the guy to do a commercial endoresement. They flew him out to New York first class. The ad exec gave him time to get settled before he called him.
Ad Man: How was your flight, Mr. Ferguson?
Ferguson: Wonderful. The seats were so comfortable.
Ad Man: And the hotel? How do you like it there at the Four Seasons?
Ferguson: I’ve never seen such luxury.
Ad Man: Good, good. Now Mr. Ferguson, I want you to get a good night’s sleep so I’m not sending the limo over until ten. We’ll shoot the commercial at eleven.
Ferguson: No, no, I can’t do the commercial at eleven.
Ad Man: Why not?
Ferguson: I don’t stop coughing till noon.
The new Coke Zero tastes very much like The Real Thing.
As our Dr. always says. Pick your parents. Well, my my mother is 99 1/2 and my dad died days shy of 70.
Bkmk
Well, I do remember a video about a family that kept a cut Christmas tree “alive” (supple branches and leaves, good green color) for years by routinely filling the watering base with full-sugar coca cola....
By contrast, Pepsi is all about radical, liberal garbage and will kill you sooner.
Its the real thing!
How come its always diet Coke and not Diet Pepsi? The only best tasting diet cola is Dr Pepper IMO. I hardly drink any of it so my longevity factor is in question. LOL
Ack! Can’t believe she drinks that junk. Her good genes must make her immune to its harm.
Speaking of oldsters, My Grandma past on at 108 Christmas Eve. 10 children, 25 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a dozen great great grandchildren, and 5 great great great grandchildren. A life well lived. Congratulations Grandma, on your promotion.
Wow, that’s incredible. Congrats to your grandmother for 108 years.
I hope Trump sees this article. :D
Lol. Whenever you see on of these puff pieces about very old people they seem invariably to be drinkers, smokers, etc. Now Diet Coke. What a smarmy moralist busybody to do?
My mom is 96 and will go another ten years, I’m convinced! My dad died at ninety and all of my grandparents on both sides died at very advanced ages. I think I’m here for the long haul unless the Lord has other ideas!
“The lady just has an unusually strong constitution. That danged Diet Coke will kill ya....”
No it won’t. It prevents rust, you know. Keeps those joints lubricated.
Good genes conquer Diet Coke!
